Start of a decline? If LDM beggers off to politics, then it will be 1991 onwards all over again.....

Fred will be in charge of aero before long

Maybe a start of a decline. It's hard to tell. I really feel the Ferrari team has lacked massive direction since Schumacher left. All the hard work that Ferrari did during the years of Brawn, Byrne and Schumacher appears to gradually being undone over the last few years.

Replace Schumacher with Jean Todt and I'll agree with you. I'm glad Aldo Costa is getting kicked to the corner of the room. I'm not a fan of Ferrari, but seeing an illustrious team going around in circles is embarrassing.

Actually I should have included him rather than exclude he or Schumacher.

What a stupid move! If they can't get Newey, why fire a talented guy that has designed good racing cars many times? Makes no sense at all, they should fire Domenicali instead.

...then again after schumi left they immediately won a championship
the next year lost it by a point and 2 years later were leading it going into the last race

I simply think that they got this year's car completely wrong and the guy is paying for it

He wanted to quit after Abu Dhabi in 2010.

Which car did Aldo Costa design that was a winner? Ferrari 2007?

Ferrari are still considered in the top three teams and seeing as Newey has ruled out ever moving out of the UK they have little choice but to compete and challenge. I agree getting rid of a talented designer like Costa is cutting off the nose to spite the face in this instance. Pat Fry is no designer but is very capable of leading the innovation route as he showed at McLaren, so it begs the question who do they have in mind? Byrne is getting on abit now and I doubt he would relish such a large challenge at his time of life. Not sure this is a great move by Ferrari and getting someone in who may not understand the team or a comprehensive understanding of methods tried and failed seems to be a massive task this distance into the season.

And probably LdM came to him crying and imploring him to stay and save the world of racing! :roflmao:

A real mean part of me would have enjoyed it if Mike Coughlan had been signed instead of Williams getting him lol. If that were the case and Ferrari then went after Pedro they'd have the infamous trio..

Knee-jerk reaction or do they have a very thoroughly planned future? Interestingly design team has seemed one of Ferrari's stronger points in the last few seasons. I'm not sure how much can be expected much from Ferrari in 2012 either - they will be in a re-building phase. But yes, in the last seasons we have seen a fair amount of reshuffling in Ferrari and by now they have reached the technical director in his process. But looking at current situation, previous changes haven't really improved anything, maybe the opposite.

Compared to Ferrari I think Williams needed a change more badly. They have been seriously stagnated for some time and are in real need to try anything radical to turn the fortunes around before going under.

START of a decline? There's been a steady decline since Ross Brawn and Jean Todt left..

One constant at Ferrari; Italians can't run the team successfully for long.
