Yeah, the forum's sole thread on hip-hop is called Fo Shizzle Ma Nizzle!, which I think says it all. |

Does anyone honestly think Channel Orange is good enough to, say, deserve a 9.5/10? Apparently Pitchfork does. For reference, they gave the recently reissued Van Dyke Park's Song Cycle a 9.0.
I mean it really couldn't be more obvious that they're riding the Ocean wave of gay hype in my opinion. |

I agree that ArchAndroid is superior, but they're both great. The problem with comparing number scores on websites is that they're assigned by different people, so they're not really relative to each other. I find it easier to completely ignore that way of classifying the world and put things into a few piles - things I don't like, things I do like, things that are super. It's a really awesome way to live and you don't raise your blood pressure worrying about a decimal point.

But at the same time it's hard to ignore the site or not compare number scores when they hold so much sway. It's really quite staggering to me that a site with so many obvious inconsistencies would include number ratings at all (let alone a 101-point decimal rating system), but plenty of people simply come to the site for the number, then promptly leave. I guess in some ways they need the score, since P4K reviews barely ever talk about the actual music and the reader might otherwise be left confused as to what the reviewer actually thought.
my blood pressure does seem to be a bit high this afternoon, should've laid off the bacon roll... |

![]() Ok, this guy is the first gay / bisexual R'n'B artist raising to stardom. I am listening to his debut album "Channel Orange" for the first time now, but I am quite suprised and impressed that this album is actually far away from typical R'n'B cliché and it's experimenting with other musical styles. A critic's darling, praised by the blogspehere, a very recent coming out, so maybe I am a bit too impressed by all of it. The album is quite a long ride with 17 tracks and it's hard to judge it only based on one listen. I am not sure if I will come back for this album often, but I will surely revisit it. It is simply too good to be ignored. Frank Ocean is currently No.1 on iTunes in 12 countries with this album.(US, UK, Canada, Australia...). You can listen to Channel Orange on his tumblr: http://frankocean.tumblr.com/ ![]() |

But at the same time it's hard to ignore the site or not compare number scores when they hold so much sway. Wow, I had no idea there was such a strong anti-RnB sentiment here. That's a shame. Oh, also the album is a lot better than I'd anticipated. It's actually dead good and I'd pay money for a vinyl copy. |
