MDNA tops the UK album chart to become her 11th UK No.1 album (12th if you count the Evita soundtrack)
Madonna's UK No.1 albums Like a Virgin (1985) (2 weeks at No.1) True Blue (1986) (6 weeks at No.1) Like a Prayer (1989) (2 weeks at No.1) The Immaculate Collection (1990) (9 weeks at No.1) Ray of Light (1990) (2 weeks at No.1) Music (2000) (2 weeks at No.1) American Life (2003) (1 week at No.1) Confessions on a Dance Floor (2005) (2 weeks at No.1) Hard Candy (2008) (1 week at No.1) Celebration (2009) (1 week at No.1) MDNA (2012) (1 week at No.1 so far) --- Evita (1997) (1 week at No.1) "Give Me All Your Luvin'" has also re-entered at UK No.71 and "Masterpiece" has made an entry of its own, at No.68. |

First-week sales of 56,335 easily enough to get MDNA to UK No.1, but it's about 40,000 less than Hard Candy sold in its first week.
MDNA - Madonna's first album for Interscope after more than a quarter of a century as a Warner Music artist - debuts at number one this week with some ease: sales of 56,335 copies are 155.84% higher than David Guetta's Nothing But The Beat, which continues at number two on sales of 22,020 copies. MDNA is Madonna's 11th or 12th number one album depending on your point of view - she was, of course, the main but not the only artist on the Evita soundtrack, which hit the summit in 1996. Count MDNA as her 12th number one album, and she ahead of Elvis Presley as the solo artist with most number ones. otherwise she’s equal with Presley as the top solo artist. The Beatles remain the top artists overall, with 15 number ones. Although it was way too strong for the opposition last week, MDNA sold considerably fewer copies on its first week than Madonna's last studio album, Hard Candy, which sold 94,655 copies on its May 2008 debut, itself falling far short of the career best 217,610 copies its predecessor Confessions On The Dance Floor sold on its 2005 debut. MDNA replaces Paul Weller's Sonik Kicks- which slides to number 10 (11,520 sales), suffering the eighth biggest retreat from the summit in the 21st century - at number one. Both artists are 53 (Weller is the older by 85 days) and it is the first time in chart history that consecutive number ones have been by acts over 50. Madonna also becomes the second oldest female solo artist to have a number one album with new studio recordings, trailing only Barbra Streisand, who was 67 when she topped with Love Is The Answer in 2009. Madonna replaces Susan Boyle, who was 50 when she had her second number one album, Someone To Watch Over Me last year. Although more than half of her career to date took place in the last century century, Madonna is far from a 21st century slouch. MDNA is her sixth number one since 2000, a total equalled by Westlife and Eminem and surpassed only by Robbie Williams (seven). Williams' total rises to eight if we add Take That's last album, Progress, and Eminem's is seven if we add his D12 chart-topper, D12 World. Madonna albums don't stay long at number one these days, however, and she has spent only eight weeks at the summit this century, a total surpassed by 15 other acts, with Robbie Williams (24 weeks in solo capacity), Eminem (23) and Adele (22) leading the way. Madonna albums do tend to stay around, however and the 337 weeks she has spent in the Top 75 this century place her ninth in the longevity list. Pink - fifth overall - is the only woman with more weeks on the list (372), which is led by Coldplay (436), Take That (389) and Robbie Williams (382). Madonna is also one of the biggest selling acts of the 21st century, with sales up to Saturday 25 March (hey, these things take time to work out!) of 7,279,423. Ahead of her lie Robbie Williams (14,043,554), Westlife (11,703,404), Coldplay (10,723,737), Take That (10,698,446), Eminem (8,764,179 solo, plus 725,957 with D12), Michael Jackson (8,560,586 solo, plus 404,358 with the Jacksons/Jackson 5), and Michael Buble (7,864,929). That's enough to make her the top female solo artist, ahead of Adele (6,250,566), Pink (6,235,719), Dido (6,192,295) and Rihanna (5,860,745). If you think Lady Gaga should be in the list, think again - her sales to date are 3,892,092. Incidentally, her second album, Born This Way, ends its initial 44 week run in the Top 75 this week, slipping 56-79 (1,840 sales). MDNA is not the only Madonna album to enter the Top 75 this week. The Complete Studio Albums 1983-2008 - a Maverick/Warner Bros./Sire/Rhino box set housing her 11 previous regular albums - debuts at number 70 (2,055 sales). |

The Complete Studio Albums 1983-2008 - a Maverick/Warner Bros./Sire/Rhino box set housing her 11 previous regular albums - debuts at number 70 (2,055 sales). US report: Madonna scores her eighth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with the debut of her "MDNA," while Lionel Richie's all-star country collaborations covers album "Tuskegee" bows in the runner-up slot -- his highest-charting album since 1986. Madonna remains in second place among women with the most No. 1 albums. She now needs only one more No. 1 to tie Barbra Streisand, the leader among women with nine chart-toppers. "MDNA" sold 359,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan, and is Madonna's fifth straight studio album to debut at No. 1. It follows 2008's "Hard Candy," which moved 280,000 in its first week. "MDNA's" opener is her best sales week since 2000's "Music" shifted 420,000 when it debuted at No. 1. Meanwhile, Richie's "Tuskegee" starts with 199,000 -- his best sales week since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991. His previous largest frame in that span of time was when 2006's "Coming Home" started with 75,000 at No. 6 in 2006. Richie was last higher on the Billboard 200 in 1986, when "Dancing on the Ceiling" spent two weeks at No. 1. Like other veteran acts before him, Richie opted for a creative way to reach consumers with "Tuskegee." Not only did he go the covers route (see: Tony Bennett, Rod Stewart, etc.) but he also brought in a gaggle of A-listers (again, Bennett with his "Duets" albums, or, Santana's "Supernatural"). Further, he isn't just covering old tunes -- he's covering his own familiar hit singles, but with a country slant. Richie also was the focus of an hour-long concert special on the Home Shopping Network on March 16. Sales generated from the broadcast amounted to about 20,000 sold, says Richie's record label, Universal Music Nashville. A traditional studio album from Richie would have likely never sold as well as "Tuskegee," which targets multiple demographics all in one tidy package. Case in point: In one week, "Tuskegee" moved more than twice what his last studio album did in total -- 2009's "Just Go" has done 95,000. In terms of release-week promotion, Madonna was basically off the radar, instead focusing her energy on rehearsals for her upcoming world tour. That stands in contrast to Richie, who worked the TV circuit hard in the past week. He was the focus of multiple CMT specials and was interviewed on NBC's "Weekend Today" (March 25), appeared on "The Voice" (26, the album's release date), performed on "Today" (27), "The Late Show With David Letterman" (27), chatted with CNN's "Piers Morgan" (27) and finally, performed on CBS' "Academy of Country Music Awards" (April 1). As for Madonna, since headlining the Feb. 5 Super Bowl halftime show, she's been laying low. Her only significant recent media appearances have been via a live Facebook chat with Jimmy Fallon (March 24) and a brief drop-in at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami the same night. "MDNA's" sales were aided by a successful album sales promotion involving Madonna's upcoming world tour. U.S. customers who bought a concert ticket had the option of also receiving the album as part of their purchase. The only sales that count towards Billboard's charts are those where the customer opted to receive "MDNA." This sort of ticket/album promotion has been used in the recent past by such acts as Bon Jovi and Tom Petty. The latter's "Mojo" album saw a No. 2 debut on July 3, 2010 -- thanks to a fair number of customers who got the album via a ticket purchase. The same goes for Bon Jovi's 2007 No. 1 album "Lost Highway." ___ SINGLES "Give Me All Your Luvin'" [ft. Fittingly, Houston joins another legendary female singer, Madonna, in making chart history this week. In the very same week, Houston and Madonna become the first two artists to reach the Hot 100's top 10 in the 1980s, '90s, 2000s and '10s. Four other artists have had top 10s in four decades: Barbra Streisand and Cher (each from the '60s through the '90s) and Michael Jackson and Aerosmith ('70s-'00s). Madonna achieves another milestone this week: she becomes the fourth female singer to notch a Hot 100 top 10 after turning 50, along with Tina Turner ("I Don't Wanna Fight," 1993), Streisand ("I Finally Found Someone," 1996) and Cher ("Believe," 1999). Almost 30 years after her arrival on Billboard's charts, Madonna continues to feel L-U-V from her fans. On this week's Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, her latest single, "Give Me All Your Luvin'," featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., bounds 13-10 in its second chart week. The first single from Madonna's 12th studio album, "MDNA," due March 26 (which sports an "L-U-V, Madonna!" cheerleader chant), becomes her 38th Hot 100 top 10, pushing her further ahead of runners-up the Beatles (34). Madonna first reached the chart's top tier the week of June 16, 1984, when "Borderline" rose to its No. 10 peak. She had last ranked in the region with "4 Minutes," featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, the week of June 28, 2008. Here is a look at the artists with the most top 10 songs in the Hot 100's 53-year history: 38 -- Madonna 34 -- the Beatles 28 -- Michael Jackson 28 -- Stevie Wonder 27 -- Mariah Carey 27 -- Janet Jackson 27 -- Elton John 25 -- Elvis Presley (whose career predates the chart's Aug. 4, 1958, inception) 23 -- Whitney Houston 23 -- the Rolling Stones As previously reported, "Luvin'" jumps 7-6 on the Digital Songs survey with 165,000 downloads sold (up 44%) in the list's tracking week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The period encompassed the first full week following Madonna's performance of the song at Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis (Feb. 5). The track, slides, however, 28-59 on the Radio Songs chart (20 million audience impressions, down 54%, according to Nielsen BDS). "Luvin' " had benefitted last week from special promotion on Clear Channel Media and Entertainment's more than 50 monitored pop stations, which played it at the top of every hour from Friday, Feb. 3, at 9 a.m. ET until the big game's kickoff. NEW MATERIAL: Madonna dresses up the Billboard Hot 100 for a 56th time, as "Give Me All Your Luvin'," featuring Nicki Minaj and M.I.A., soars in at No. 13. As she takes a bow, Madonna ties Dionne Warwick for the second-most Hot 100 entries among women after Aretha Franklin. Here is a look at the female artists that have made the most visits to the survey: 73, Aretha Franklin 56, Madonna 56, Dionne Warwick 53, Connie Francis 48, Brenda Lee 44, Mariah Carey 43, Taylor Swift 41, Barbra Streisand 40, Mary J. Blige 40, Diana Ross Madonna additionally extends her mark for the most top 40 hits among women in the Hot 100's history, as "Luvin'" arrives as her 49th title to reach the region. She outpaces Franklin (43), Carey, Francis (33 each) and Janet Jackson (32). With one more top 40 entry, Madonna will match the totals tallied by the Beatles and the "Glee" cast (50 each). Elvis Presley leads all acts with 80 top 40 hits dating to the Hot 100's Aug. 4, 1958, launch. The only other acts with more than 50 top 40 songs are Elton John (57) and Lil Wayne (55). With her grand entrance, the Queen of Pop becomes just the second artist to have logged top 40 hits in the '80s, '90s, '00s and '10. The first? The King of Pop. The week of Jan. 1, 2011, Michael Jackson's "Hold My Hand," with Akon, rose from No. 65 to its No. 39 peak. "Hand" became Jackson's 38th solo top 40 hit. While Madonna bests him in the category, his streak of top 40 titles spans five decades, as he notched his first top 40 song apart from the Jackson 5, "Got to Be There" (No 4) in 1971. ___ "Girl Gone Wild" Release date: March 2, 2012 ![]() #4 Hungary #4 Italy #7 Spain #8 Israel #13 Finland #17 Japan #23 France #25 Belgium (Flanders) #28 Belgium (Wallonia) #40 Brazil #42 Canada #59 Slovakia #66 Netherlands #73 UK (3,557 sales) #86 Romania #88 Czech Republic #93 Australia #106 US Billboard Hot 100 (#6 on Bubbling Under) UK chart report - May 21, 2012 I mentioned last week that Engelbert Humperdinck's Love Will Set You Free was by far the biggest selling single in the chart on CD. While moving 64-76 with 3,442 sales on the overall singles chart, it now slips to third on the CD chart with 1,160 sales - fewer than The Saturdays' 30 Days (2,349 sales) and Madonna's Girl Gone Wild. The latter track sold 1,221 copies on CD and a further 699 on 12-inch (topping the 12-inch chart) - but despite this, and the fact the track is being used extensively on TV to promote Madonna's new perfume Truth Or Dare, Girl Gone Wild makes a woeful number 73 debut on the Top 75, with 3,557 sales. It is the third song from Madonna's current album MDNA to chart - and none has performed well. First single Gimme All Your Lovin' featured M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj but still stalled at number 37 in February, while Masterpiece crawled to number 68 in April despite winning a Golden Globe award and getting huge airplay support from Radio 2. MDNA is barely affected by the release of Girl Gone Wild, climbing 39-36, while recording its lowest weekly sales tally of 3,506. After eight weeks on release , MDNA has finally topped the 100,000 sales mark, with 103,381 sales to date. ___ OTHER "Masterpiece" Release date: -- (March 2012) #68 UK ___ Will update this post as more figures come in. |

^Yes, but you still didn't get it for free, you had an option to buy the album along with the ticket.
I've spotted there are many faults with the mixing, you can easily hear that vocals are merged from different takes in some songs and, while it's common to do that, it shouldn't be noticeable. It's such a patchwork. |

![]() After a week's worth of downloads, GIRL GONE WILD and GIVE ME ALL YOUR LUVIN' still figure higher than any of the MDNA tracks. Following behind are GANG BANG, MASTERPIECE and I DON'T GIVE A.... The rest of the other album tracks which were visible during the initial day/s of release no longer appear to have charted. If this is used as a gauge for future release/s, Gang Bang is an (odd) favourite distantly followed by I Don't Give A... (since Masterpiece is already released as a single in the UK only). BBC Radio 2, the music station aimed at over 30s which has even higher listening figures than Radio 1, has added Masterpiece to their 'A' Playlist this week guaranteeing it maximum exposure. Interesting to see how that pans out... it's like GGW has already been written off.

GAY me all your luvin' hits (well, slithers to) #1 on the club/dance charts.
As first tipped earlier today exclusively on MadonnaTribe, Her Majesty's "Give Me All Your Luvin'" jumps from No. 2 to No. 1 on next week's U.S. Billboard Dance/Club Play chart! The stunning achievement is reported in advance of the official dance chart to be released next week. Madonna extends her record-breaking reign of No. 1 dance hits to 41! Her Majesty easily outpaces and more than doubles the chart toppers of the artist in second place, Janet Jackson (who has achieved a mere 19 No. 1 dance hits). Amazingly, The Queen's reign of number one dance songs extends over four decades: 9 classics reached number one in the 1980's; 13 gems reached the summit in the 1990's; 18 tracks reached number one in the 1990's; and so far 1 song has reigned at number 1 in the 2010's. In addition, "Girl Gone Wild" roars up the Dance/Club Play chart in its second week. After last week's debut at No. 46, "Girl Gone Wild" leaps into the Top 20, at No. 20. The dazzling chart success of these two stellar single releases adds to the fervor of the imminent MDNA release. Thanks to MadonnaTribe contributor Rob in Berkeley, California USA |

MDNA sold 32,845 on its first day in the UK which is going to be enough to get it to No.1 - its nearest rival is currently on just under 7,000 at the same stage.
By comparison, Hard Candy also sold in the 33,000 region on its first day four years ago. Considering that had a big UK No.1 hit behind it ("4 Minutes") and this one has no big hit and only BBC Radio 2 support for "Masterpiece" (currently #24 on the UK airplay chart), I'd say MDNA is performing pretty well. |

Interesting to see how that pans out... it's like GGW has already been written off. I always listened to Radio2 when I lived in the UK and can see how Masterpiece would fit their playlists. I think it's a good thing anyway to make people aware that for all its boom-boom MDNA has a little more in store. NB: Masterpiece still on the A List Week Commencing 24 March 2012 |
