I'll start:

Axis and allies

This was my version, though:

Though it's more of a card game...

Definitely the Civ III boardgame.

Just kidding, I never played it. But Kuci did. Once.

That isn't so much.

Advanced Squad Leader has far more.

Pre-emptive post...

CHECKERS! And I will own each and everyone of you here in it.
[British person] Checkers? What is that? Draughts? [/British Person]

You know Dauphin or Cockney or Cort Haus was definitely going to come in here and say something like that They're all the same and they all do the same thing. Hell, it could have been Thoth as well even though he's Canadian

They can be more social. I love playing a good game of Settlers or Carcassonne with friends and family and a tumbler of scotch.

My human team usually does terribly; then again, it's not painted yet, either.

Seriously... what's the point of playing a boardgame when there are videogames?
Adding to what Asher said about the social thing, board games are physical and tactile. They look good on the table. You can play them with friends/family in an inn or cottage on holiday in the mountains, when it's nice to be away from computers for a change.

So who wants to lose to me first in checkers?
Hmmm, why not? I'll take you on at draughts, and you take me on at chess.
