Default It's High Time I Developed a Scotch Habit
I've not tried Battlehill, but Scotch

Personally, I only drink it neat. Ever. No water, no ice.

Your appreciation should grow the more you get to sample. It takes some tongue training to appreciate.

Scotch is no ordinary alcohol.

What's your opposition to it?

Most people abhor alcohol because people use it to get drunk. But if you get drunk on Scotch, you're ridiculously stupid. It's way too expensive.

alcohol is poison.
So is air, food and water. Like scotch, they are necessities for life.

Hey Che... as pointed out, if you want to enjoy, skip the water and get a real glass. Sip slowly and just enjoy.

I had too much Scotch and beer today at the BBQ and ended up falling asleep in the middle of the party. Apparently I snored way to loud for everyone.

Some water can be good, but generally I'd only bother if it was particularly strong, over about 47% or so, generally if it's around 40% they've already added the water for you before they bottled it.

Water does change the taste, specifically it allows some of the more volatile aroma compounds to be released more easily or something, I quite like that, some don't.

Ice chills the whiskey, reduces the evaporation and prevents a lot of the aromas getting out.

Whether to add water or not is personal preference. Adding ice to good whiskey is a criminal offence.

Yes...

You're probably thinking of rye whiskey as whiskey.

Doesn't drinking scotch strike anybody as a bit bourgeois for a commie?

They call it "Scots whisky" in its homeland.
No they don't.

(if this is a joke about stupid Americans calling Scots people Scotch people then I mean )

I don't know why you would label them stupid. It's just the older way of naming. Read a few older English novels and it's all Scotch, not Scots. Educate yourself.

I don't have a rocks glass. A coffee mug seemed just wrong.

shot glass? That's not any better.

You need either a tumbler or a Glencairn Scotch glass.

Oh yes- ice. If you're going to add ice, don't bother buying any of the above because they'll be wasted on you.

I used a coffee mug for every bottle of whiskey/scotch/whisky I drank.

JM
(except the bottles I drank out of the bottle)
