Don't get me wrong, death row conversions are about the least believable things EVAH, but that is irrelevant to then-Gov. Bush's behavior. |

Not being a trekkie, that allusion was stored on one lonely little neuron hiding in a dusty corner of my temporal lobe. I had to resort to google to get that little sucker to fire completely. |

Every president in his last months of power adopts a conciliatory attitude, including towards his political enemies. Every pres wants to remembered in a positive way, and in vain they all try to behave like a 'good guy'. Bush tried to make peace in the Israel-Palestine conflict, but got thwarted by the failure of Livni forming a government, which in turn caused the majority to shut down peace talks with Palestinians and Syrians. Pretty much the last big failure of the Bush administration, though I have to admit this time around he didn't really **** it up himself

As transitions go, this one has been pretty classy so far. Bush didn't have to be laid back, he could have gone all formal and no one would have called him out on it. However, he himself has been nice and has had his people cooperate. At least that's how it looks from the outside, which all most of us will ever know about it. He's prolly trying to make up for what Clinton did to him during the transition when he took the reins of power. |
