He's planning on saving a girls choir from a panda in retaliation.

Putin is nervous about having screwed and isolated Russia, and has turned to saving news crews. No, I have no proof, but this is interesting timing.

Clearly this wan't a setup! If it was, there'd be a filming of the whole incident, as opposed to a couple of snapshots!

Westerners doubting teh Putin.

Well, it certainly was fortunate that Putin happened to be walking through the woods with a tranquilizer gun loaded with appropriate dosage for a tiger. Or something.

Hell, Cheney shot his friend in the face when hunting, Putin saved a TV crew from a fricken Tiger. Russia owns.

Just as Putin was arriving with a group of wildlife specialists to see a trapped Amur tiger, it escaped and ran towards a nearby camera crew, the country's main television station said. Putin quickly shot the beast and sedated it with a tranquilizer gun.

Pretty efficient tranquilizer that knocks out the beast in a few seconds

That clarifies things.

From William Blake:

Tiger! Tiger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder, and what art,
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? and what dread feet?

Could it be Mr. Putin is trigger-happy anyway, so getting this shot off so quickly was no big deal?
