The big room, laundry, and bath is poured cement/foundation. The original portion of the house has a crawlspace, with wood joists... but in order to get the second story in without violating the allowable height in the neighborhood, we had to set the addition down about 3 feet, so ground level. That's because the lot has a slight slope to it, about 5 feet from street to alley. Gives the upstairs some partial views on the ocean though, which is nice.
The master bath is upstairs. There we painted on a waterproof membrane over the flooring. (The membrane is the greenish stuff crawling the walls.) We taped/membraned the joint between the floor and walls too. Then put a layer of thin hardibacker board across the floor as well, with the thinset going directly on that. |

I just do grunt work, post on poly, and go to the beach. |

Yep... the plants really help it look less like a pile of rocks. They're doing pretty well considering we planted them in August and it's been 90F+ and dry every day.
I was planning on bringing an old laptop over. It's got a wireless LAN. (So does my desktop, but I think I'll give it to my brother or something.) I do a bit of work online, only takes a couple minutes a day though, and that only from late March till October. The only problem with the laptop is it has a graphics/heat problem and doesn't like to function after about 30 minutes or so. (Which admittedly might be a good thing.) That and it doesn't have firewire, so my mini-DV camera can't transfer to it from tape (but can from SD card). Was looking for internet service just yesterday. Smart has a prepaid nationwide (Philippines) wireless service, P3800 for the equipment, and P10 per half hour block of used time. Was planning on something like that, though if I can leech off yours that's even better ![]() http://smart.com.ph/Corporate/Brands/SmartBro/ Keep forgetting to get a 220 to 110 converter. Would just need it to recharge the batteries on my camera and laptop. |

Wall plugs are the same. Sure, without a doubt you can use our Smartbro connection.
![]() There's alot of gaming time over there in between having a blast. Will your laptop handle it? Particularly if it gets hot...I mean its hot there. ![]() My comp there has a switch between 110/220 but I never trusted that it would work...and I've burned my playstation too many times there because the plugs are the same to burn my comp by flipping a switch. ![]() |

I listed the baggage allowance in the other thread. Regarding the case, I don't know how cheap it is but there are a couple of places in two different malls that assemble comps so I guess they sell cases.
I had no problem bringing my desktop. I wrote down the dimention listed in the baggage inst, went to my local walmart and bought a box that was slightly less than the inst. Then I put foam around my comp in the box and checked it in at the airport when we traveled. The camping foam I got was 2 inches thick sleeping pad. I cut the pad up and fit it around the comp. Made chair pillows out of it over there. The monitor I got there but if you have an lcd type monitor it should fit. Remember you can check >>2 |
