"You have to wonder why they haven't had a little leniency on them to let them go home? My heart bleeds for them.

I don't say more laws. I say enforce the laws that make sense. I say, don't move the line. Here's the line. You cross it, this will happen. Not, this to this. This, will happen to you. Period. You done crossed that line.

That's off the subject. We having aging prisoners.
WHen they were put in, maybe it was expected they would live "X" amount of years. They're living "Y".
What about them?

Maybe some of them are in for one of the first drug wars the US government fought.

The one called the prohibition

This is a shitty deal. People can change. I've never committed a crime, but I know I'm a lot wiser now than I was even 3 years ago. I'd hate to be judged and remembered forever by how I acted when I was 22. I'm only 25 now.

Be it for the greater good or otherwise, it's still a shitty deal. Don't think that someone who has committed a crime isn't worthy of compassion, and don't think that compassion is a limited resource which must be strictly rationed (by that I mean: "ZOMG care not for the victim?!!". No. Care for Both.)

As much as I am not a fan of NJ, once you get away from the northeast part of the state and some of the other bad coastal areas, NJ has quite a lot of beautiful areas.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to pay for medium or maximum scurity for inmates incapable of escape.
