Suggestion Two: Join the Navy. They don't get sent to Iraq (much). Specialize in something that's useless on land (e.g. sonar).

Plus, the bigger the non-employment gap, the more "damaged goods" you'll become. There was actually a study recently that showed the opposite (don't ask for a cite). It claimed the wage of the first job you take out of school is indicative of the salary you will continue to make. It advised holding out for the better job than taking just anything to avoid a resume gap.

What? Don't most english majors go into food service? I'm sure there's plenty of such jobs.

Also - apply for those that state "Experience Required" - you never know what may happen.

True - many will not respond - but some may - it is worth a shot.

And I agree that that working while you look for the ideal job is the way to go.

Shrapnel - Obviously you do what you have to do. I've shovelled **** along the way (literally) so I'm certainly not lecturing or being elitist. Just passing on what I heard.

I'm kindof bored at the moment so I'll take a look for the study I referred to, but as this is not my area of knowledge I don't know how successful I'll be.

I just recently started looking for a job after my summer of Dis. .

It's rare to see the sunday paper so thin in the job classified. The job market is real tight where I live (unless you want to work in retail ). Last time I looked, there were many more jobs available.

I'm under the impression it's like this accross the country. Unemployment is real low. Hand it to the republicans here, even if they are shitheads. The economy is strong right now.

Hmmm, head off to a military academy like Anapolis..?

BTW: You haven't been unemployed. You've been working on your novel.

we got a new casino opening up in December I think (I figure they will try to beat new years). While I'm not interested in a casino job, what it does is shift the job market around and create openings in other places. But I don't want to wait that long. I'm getting bored now.

If you don't want to work in that line of work perhaps you need to move somewhere else?

Besides I am currently looking for another job and it is sllllooooowwww(hand), although I am in a job and can't complain at that level, and I don't mind at all what I am doing.

Elok: Oh, OK. I thought you were in the DC area because you were looking in the WaPo for jobs.

I'm in the legal field.
