Default Getting a portable MP3 player
Best MP3 player overall. The iPod nano tops virtually all other MP3 players when it comes to sound quality and ease of use. The iPod nano has an aluminum shell that's more scratch resistant than the first-generation nano. Battery life has been improved to about 24 hours, and the 1.5-inch screen is 40 percent brighter. Reviews say the nano is the best blend of most attributes, but the nano does not play videos or have an FM tuner, and your music purchases are limited to Apple's iTunes store. The nano is also available in 2GB (about 500 songs) and 8GB (about 2,000 songs) capacities, and it comes in five colors.

Best value. In reviews, experts say the SanDisk Sansa line of MP3 players has great design, features and value -- the 8GB version costs about $70 less than the 8GB iPod nano.

"and your music purchases are limited to Apple's iTunes store"

That quote in and over itself is proof the Ipod Nano is garbage as are most Apple products.

IPOD Nano has a good sound quality(the shuffle was one of the best mp3 player considering sound quality). The downside of the Nano is that you will have to use iTunes... which pretty suck.

Around 10 month ago( Iwas looking to get an mp3 player), the Samsung YP-Z5 was one of the best mp3 players considering sound quality and durability.

I tried this mp3 player and here a list of thing that I loved about it;

- it can be used as an usb media storage,
- you can copy/paste mp3 files without using any sync software
- and you can also play ogg (maybe you'll need a firmware upgrade).

BTW, you can play OGG and FLAC files on your iPod with the Rockbox firmware.
