How do I convince my parents to let me get a FB?
As most people know on YF, I am 11. NO ONE cares about the 13 rule. Here is my argument: (this is to my parents ![]() • Most of my friends are on Dacebook. Also, I kind of feel out of the loop when my friends talk about what they do on Facebook and what games they play. • I will be able to do facebook from my iPod. • I can get those free movie tickets like Ajinkya. • You will have to approve before I friend someone. • I can chat with my friends via Facebook. Most of them do not have Gmail. And if they do, the 2 that do also have FaceBook and are on THERE much more frequently. • I will follow any guidelines you set. • You will have my password. Any suggestions? |

To be honest, you're not even allowed to be on YF due to COPPA regulations until you are 13. An 11 year old should not be on Facebook. My advice to you would be to stick it out for at least 1 more year. There are a lot of facebook-esque sites out there that make you think like you're logging into your account but are actually giving your info to some random website. It's safer when you're older and can understand stuff like this better.

How I see it (but of course I will see it this way)...
They are your parents and while ever you are living under their roof, you have to cop their rules. You may not like it, but that's just the way it goes. My friend's 13yr old daughter wants a mobile phone. Her parents have told her 'not until you are 16'. Now, she is talking about suicide and all that because 'all of her friends have one and she doesn't' and seeing them for 8 hours a day @ school isn't enough. Kids these days have to learn respect and when 'no means no'. If the little snots grow up hating their parents and resenting them for the rest of their lives because they never got 'their own way'...if they end up topping themselves because they are so shallow that doing everything their friends do is 'a matter of life and death'.. .....so be it. ---------- Post added February 14th, 2011 at 05:07 PM ---------- In Addition: If I was your mother and I said 'No Facebook until you are 13' (a decision I agree with btw) and you started to question my authority and backtalk me, all of your PC privileges would be removed for a month. You would find yourself grounded faster than the Hindenburg. Think of it this way. |

First and foremost it's only illegal if he's american.. which he sounds like he is.
Second, don't join facebook until you have a far better understanding of privacy issues and concerns. Here's a hint - if you were good enough at understanding these you'd have no trouble hiding a facebook profile from your parents |

There are too many young kids your age with Facebooks now a-days. Be original and do not have one.
But if you must argue with your parents about it, a few of your reasons make it look like you will get addicted to the site and start neglecting your homework. I would consider rewording your points that you are going to bring up to them, and omit a few. |
