Has anyone been watching the series of films on or by Clint Eastwood being featured on TCM? A remarkable man. Comments, anyone?
Clint Eastwood Jazz - Wednesday, June 8 ![]() His accomplishments as an actor and OscarĀ®-winning director are so formidable that it's easy to forget Clint Eastwood is also a talented musician with a long involvement in the world of jazz. In addition to writing the scores for several of his films and using classic jazz recordings in others, Eastwood has produced documentaries about musicians and plays a mean piano himself. Our tip of the hat to Eastwood's jazzy side includes Dave Brubeck: In His Own Sweet Way (2010), a documentary about the celebrated composer/ musician executive produced by Eastwood and newly available on DVD. Also screening are three TCM premieres: Thelonious Monk: Straight, No Chaser (1988), a documentary on the legendary pianist also executive produced by Eastwood; Bird (1988), a biopic of troubled saxophone great Charlie "Bird" Parker produced and directed by Eastwood; and Eastwood After Hours: Live at Carnegie Hall (1997), a concert tribute to Eastwood's films and music with performances by many outstanding jazz musicians including Eastwood himself. |
