Counties are involuntary quasi-corporate entities. They are endowed with authority by the state constitution and are immune from liability.
Got that from a Michigan case I looked at today. Guy was held in jail for 207 days awaiting trial and tried to sue for his deteriorating health. He was told to get stuffed ... the county was immune from liability. |
