Counties are involuntary quasi-corporate entities. They are endowed with authority by the state constitution and are immune from liability.

Got that from a Michigan case I looked at today. Guy was held in jail for 207 days awaiting trial and tried to sue for his deteriorating health. He was told to get stuffed ... the county was immune from liability.

The amount he's suing for is very low. And there aren't any criminal charges?

I mean they broke his back then left him in a jail cell for 2 days without treatment.

and the 600k bill from the lawsuit will be dumped right square in the lap of the tax payers.

It's easy to gamble with the lives of others when someone else has to foot the bill for your mistakes.
