Default Welcome Gavin!
I don't usually do this - welcome new members individually, that is - but I'm happy to see that Gavin Walker has joined our happy, friendly family of jazz talkers here. For those who don't know him, Gavin's been on the Vancouver jazz scene for many years and is among the most knowledgeable people on the subject of jazz anywhere. As far as I know he doesn't perform anymore but he was for many years one of our better known alto and flute players and was the only player with a regular gig at the famous Classical Joint where he owned Thursday nights for . . . how long was it, Gavin? He's also hosted "The Jazz Show" on CITR for at least twenty years, I think.

Thanks Brian that was indeed nice(in the best sense of the word) to acknowledge my finally coming of age and buying a computer and going online.I do hope I can make some contributions to the forum.I am actually still playing and hope my chops will be in shape by this fall or winter to re-enter the scene as a player.I've actually been doing "The Jazz Show" on CITR-101.9 on Monday's at 9:00pm since 1984....holy smoke!!!!It's a lot more fun than the couple of years I did "Jazzland" for the CBC in the early 80's as I basically can play what I like and don't have to adhere to a producer's format. The CBC paid some nice money but money isn't everything(smile).Looking forward to some civil discourse(with apologies to Jesse Cahill)Thanks again.

Welcome aboard bruh. Good to see you've decided to get with the program and start wasting time on-line.

I'll be up in Vancouver for a while June 28th for a couple of jazzfest gigs and a bit of bloviation on the appropriately named "Hot Air." Let's hook up for a coffee.
