Default Memory Card Help
I'm going on a 3-week trip to France on Sunday, and of course one of my biggest companions throughout the duration of the trip will be my Canon PowerShot S400 Digital Elph (4MP). I currently have 2 CompactFlash memory cards...a 32MB and a 96MB, which collectively can hold around 300 pictures (I think...it's just based on my usage, but it could be more or less).
I'm planning on taking many more pictures than that (figure between 500-800), therefore I need a bigger memory card. The problem though, is I don't know what size to get! Therefore, if anyone hear is an expert in the realms of photography, I'd really appreciate your assistance in helping me pick what size/brand of card would best suit my needs in this case...thanks!
P.S. I'm currently looking at a 2GB Sandisk card, which is priced at $40 US. I'm sure it's more space than I'll ever need for this trip or in general, but it fits into my budget and I won't have to keep clearing the card everytime I run out of room...is this a good choice?

I have a 7.2mp Casio Exilim and I bought a 2GB card before going back to Spain this spring. Even on a relatively high quality setting, I took more than 800 pictures, and still didn't fill it up. Trust me, a 2GB will more than do the job.

Shop around. IIRC, I got mine (2GB) for around $15, or ten (I don't recall, actually ), but there was a rebate attached to it which I got about a month later - Kensington was the brand I think.
The number of photos will vary depending on the resolutions you are shooting. I am sure you know that

At 4mp, you could do about 900 with a 2GB SD-card. XD's can hold even more IIRC.

my canon sd400 runs out of battery before running out of space on the 1 gig I have. I shot at the highest resolution, 5 megapixels as well.

I have a Sony DSC-W70 7.2MP camera with a 2GB Sandisk Memory Card. The Sandisk works wonders for such a low price so I recommend you getting one.

I talked to my uncle who's an expert with this type of stuff, and he said the 2GB should suffice, so I think I'm gonna go with that. Thanks for everyone's help!

Also try Buy.com. They usually run good deals on stuff like that.

I bought mine on Amazon.com for $30, which was a great deal as it was down from $100. I rush-shipped it though because I don't want to take chances with it coming too late (even though I've never had difficulty) so that bumped the price up to $40.

To get the most out of your camera (and i know this cause i have the exact same one) You can change the image quality down to normal as it doesn't make a huge difference in the end. Hope that helps.
