I have a 2.0T A4 quattro. Good car. I'm 6'2" and fit in fine, there's room to spare. I've had mine 15 months and the only thing to break was an ignition coil. Cheap part and they've all been replaced under a recall now anyway. Mine get's the quoted economy figures as well, whatever that translates to in miles per US gallon. Quattro is good in the snow, mine was last year, as long as you're tyres arn't bald and shite. Also ECU remap to about 260bhp and it's pretty good. Very worthwhile and no point ding anything more.
This! My last car was a MKIV Jetta, which has similar space for the driver, you're good to go.

I would say so. I've never driven a newer Impala, but I know I was far more comfortable in my Jetta than I was in a 2002ish Impala. It really depends on the car, I've been in Volvos that look like tanks, but feel cramped while driving. I know VW/Audi make a comfortable automobile. I could tilt the wheel, and put the seat back so far in the Jetta that it was hard to drive, for what it's worth.

We don't have Implala's here but I'd be surprised if it wasn't at least on a par. The Dodge is the same as a Chrysler 300C isn't it? Which is roomy. Best just go and have a sit in one.

Tough call.
That Charger is basically a Mercedes.
I can only presume you've never been in a Mercedes? They are about a million miles apart in percieved (and actual) quality. There is nothing wrong with the charger at all, I'd love one if I lived in the US, but comparing Dodge to Mercedes in terms of product quality is.....let's be kind here....dubious.

I need to retire my impala, it's starting to become a burden to repair. So I have managed to find two cars which i seem to like for under 15k. Problem is, I just can't decide which!

2007 Audi a4 2.0T Quattro AWD with 66k miles for $14,900
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false
or

2006 Dodge Charger R/T RWD (5.7L) with 72k miles for $14,500

The Audi is a premium car, the Dodge is not. It really depends how much you value interior quality I suppose. Personally, I like my cars interior to look as good as the exterior as that's what I have to look at most of the time. Dodge chargers are the predominant taxi in Vegas so I spent quite a bit of time in them, and they are a few notches below on the qualitometer. Probably more of a laugh to drive though.

Based off a Mercedes platform.
Mercedes suspension.
Mercedes transmission.
And some more stuff.
Almost effectively a cheap Mercedes with a HEMI.

Do remember that Mercedes did own Chrysler for a while, so got a lot of Mercedes stuff.
3.0L Diesel was Mercedes.
Current Grand Cherokee shares a Mercedes platform.
5-Speeds are Mercedes.
Chrysler Crossfire is straight up Mercedes.

Plus a lot of the other smaller components that make a vehicle come from a Mercedes parts bin.

Chrysler has always had good/bad *cough*Mercedes*cough* relationships with other companies.
AMC basically helped make Jeep what it became.
Mitsubishi and Chrysler shared a sh/t ton of stuff during the 90's. The current I4 is Dodge, Hyundai, Kia designed of which Mitsubishi uses as well (and in the EvoX). Compass/Patriot share a similar platform for the Mitsu Lancer. Dodge, BMW and GM worked together on that Hybrid transmission.
And now Chrysler is owned by FIAT, so is going to get a lot of FIAT technology, components and platforms.
Sir, your lack of knowledge of cars is letting you down BADLY here. A machine (car in this case) is more than the sum of its parts (or should be).

Sharing a platform and a few other components has very little to do with how a car feels to own / drive / maintain.

It's hard to get STDs while driving a PT Cruiser as well.
I went from Las Vegas to California in a gold PT Cruiser. There were many points on the journey where I considered crashing into a cactus and letting the vultures pick my bones. A truly hideous vehicle, only surpassed in terms of overall nastiness when Pontiac introduced a mandatory LSD with your lunch policy and forced the Aztec onto an entirely undeserving public. I'm sure in a few years we will work out what they were punishing people for.

Exactly. It's an old, old E-class as far as I know. From the era Mercedes were making junk really. I have a soft spot for the 300C version, but really it's not quite in the same league as the Audi or a modern Merc.

If Audi is anything like a VW I would not own one if you gave it to me. The VW's I have been around were by far the most unreliable cars I have ever had to repair for family and friends. Just down right junk. I got tired of my phone ringing because everybody knew I had a car trailer. Then can you tow it to your place and fix it for me. Jesus Christ I don't want to touch your god !@$% junk VW any more just leave me alone!!!!!!!!

Brings back bad memories. Thank god they all have gotten rid of them except for my sister in law and she is just months away from getting rid of hers.

BTW If anybody needs a good 2.0 coil just let me know. VW stated to my sister in law that in order for them to warranty the catalytic converter she must have them replace the aftermarket coil, wires and plugs with OEM equipment. UHHHHHHHHHH WRONG you lying to a woman sack of $HIT! That would be called the magnuson moss warranty act you worthless idiots!

Audi and VW are essentially the same company. Just like Honda and Acura, Chevrolet and Pontiac, and many more. There may be a few differences between the car, but they share a lot of the same components (Engines, frames, elecronics).

I do drive a VW, and it's been pretty good to me. My main complaint is the electronics. They could do a much better job in the firmware. The TPMS in my car has reset to a default 5.5bar/80psi which triggers an error/low pressure in the tires. Why they chose such a high default is pretty dumb. Most people have to take it into the VW dealership to have it set back to the proper pressure of 2.6bar/36psi, but since I own a VAG-COM, I can program it myself to the pressure I want. But the big issue is it keeps happening. I've had to reset my TPMS 3 times since I bought my car ( just over 1 1/2 years)

My other complaint on these cars is you must own a VAG-COM to be able to do your own servicing. On my car, when the fuel filter get's changed, you must re-prime the fuel system, which can only be done through the on-board computer. You can't simply cycle the ignition to turn on the correct fuel pumps.

And don't look to deep into them telling your sister about the warranty, they do that to everyone because a majority of the time, it works and dealerships get out of paying for stuff they should be. It's not just VW that does it. I had a Toyota dealership tell me they wouldn't service an engine mount because I had a CAI, Changed there tune real fast when I mentioned the magnuson moss warranty act.

I'd guess it's a form of double fault protection. Nobody has their tyres that high so a reset to default will always raise an alarm. If the default was 36PSI then it might not always go off and there is always the chance that a reset to default will void some other function that you rely on which you would never find out about otherwise.

That's the way I'd do it anyway.

I know all cars have some sort of issue but dang if the vw's my family and friends have owned have had a non stop slew of issues. It seemed never ending and everybody turned to me to either tow them or fix them because they knew I had a car trailer and they knew I am decent with cars.

1. 2.0 coils out the ying yang. Replaced a couple of them.
2. Front half shafts going bad and clunking by 60K
3. plastic fuel line broke under the car at 80K and left my wifes best friend stuck on the highway
4. Windows falling off track for no reason and crashing down into the door
5. Blown head gaskets on my wifes friends turbo passat at 80K
6. Simply brilliant plastic thermostat housing eroding away leaving my friend stuck on the road and me to the rescue.
7. Strut tower bearings going bad
8. timing belt tensioner going bad
9. 2 catalytic converter failures on 2 separate cars.

And all of these were well before anything ever reached 100K. I know I am missing a few other things. All of them had rattly falling apart interiors. By bar the the most problematic cars I have ever seen.
