Sorry if this is a bit of a rant, but here goes.

I don't hate sports, I loved playing them when I was a kid, although it never went further than backyard games with the rest of the neighborhood & gym class. I guess I'm just the type where I'd rather be playing. I don't even mind getting together with the guys every now and then at the pub and watching whatever the 'big game' is while having a few brews, or even going to the occasional game, but I'm never able to follow our teams through the season. I just end up getting bored and losing interest. I don't understand the strategy behind the play calling and whatnot so it doesn't stimulate my mind.

Football is probably the only game that stands a chance of m actually following it the most and that's only because there's 1 game a week, and it's usually on the weekend. Even a little hockey is OK, but everything else, there's just too many games too close together. I've started going back to taking classes again, so with that and going to the gym to keep in shape, my free time is incredibly limited. I've got to split it between my friends / gaming, and the future missus.

I suppose the one thing that annoys me the most though is all the other guys at work. They constantly talk about every single sport, every single game and their fantasy leagues like the fate of the free world hangs in the balance. And heaven forbid it's March Madness season, it's even worse!

I know some of you guys run fantasy leagues on here sometimes which is cool, but I don't have to deal with that by not going into those threads in the first place, lol.

Are there any others that feel the same way, or am I alone here?

Personally, I hate when discussions about sports intensify and end up in rambling, rants, swearing and insults. It's something you see in almost every sport: whenever someone says something stupid, it brings down any level of discussion and just goes foul.

I absolutely love road racing, and I've followed MotoGP since 2006, World Superbikes since 2008, MotoGP 125cc and Moto2 since last year, Formula One since this season, and I've kept an eye on British Superbikes and World Supersport this year as well. It's a hobby that's intensified quickly, and one I practice myself as well with my motorcycle or karting. But you can't have a single proper discussion about MotoGP, or fans of particular riders will start fighting with eachother over random statistics. It's really weird, since all those professional gladiators are brave, bad-ass and ultrafast. Of course some are more personable than others, but discussions so often end up lacking any kind of respect it just puts me off participating in talking about my favorite sports. The same occasionally happens here on FM, in the Formula One threads.

Luckily for me, there aren't many people around who follow any of these sports as passionately as I do, so usually I can just keep all the fun to myself. [thumbup]

To be honest, you live in one of the worst cities in the world. If there were anything else to do in Pittsburgh like breathe clean air, swim in clean water, look at attractive women or find a job, people might have something else to do.

Try living in Florida. Everyone here is a transplant, and while the local sports teams are actually very good (Buccaneers, Rays), most people here are not fans.

(His racing has much improved this season, he's a much cleaner racer now than he was earlier this season. And he's still a fun guy, if a bit naïve sometimes. Best of all, he's started beating Dovizioso a bit more consistently, earning his place with Honda for next year. Let's not get started on his antics in the lower classes though, and he'd better start getting podiums next year or he's out!)

For the most part, though, it isn't too bad - what I'm disgusted by is the property destruction, vandalism and violence that seems to accompany sports in other countries, at least that isn't a problem here

I think professional sports is the best thing to ever happen. Think of all the money we could spend on curing cancer and aids if we weren't busy blowing it all on sports. I've always said that a guy who can throw a ball is worth 500x more than a guy who can aid in the research and development of medicine and technology.

They do talk about games a good bit too, although unfortunately they're all console-only gamers. The guy who told me that a PS3 has better graphics than a PC because it has more memory and more CPU power comes from this group too, so go figure.

It's kind of the same thing when it comes to hunting, a lot of the guys are big time hunters and fishers, and that kind of thing doesn't appeal to me much either. I've gone hunting a few times as I do own some guns, but I've never gotten anything, I just enjoy the shooting guns part of it really I guess.

No sport in which a vehicle is involved in a sport (unless it is an injury cart). This includes golf.
