Default secure video hosting?
Anyone know where my company can host video files online for training purposes. These files need to be secured from public/competitor reach.

Ideally they be accessible from PCs/Macs and iPhones/Android.

Any ideas how to accomplish this?

Thanks Guys.

Of course, once someone has viewed the video and downloaded it, it's pretty much out of your control.

I'd persue proper watermarking rather than trying to make the files secure as they are like images in that respect.

Use Vimeo

You can not only mark your uploaded videos to "private", but also set a series of special embedding rules so that you can embed the videos on your own website, and only that website has the right to play the video (if it is embedded on another site it will not work).

It still does not eliminate the issue where a user who visits your site can potentially use a download manager/snooper to find the source file and chose to distribute it themselves, but this is pretty much unavoidable.

Thinking about it further, your spec is far to thin to give much advice. Can you be more specific about your needs?

The videos contain information in relation to guns/armory tips and advice. Company is a security provider in the middle east. So as you can understand, we don't want to content to be public nor do we want competitors learning from our training dept!

Would be nice to view the content on mobile devices too...

OK, but who has access. Do different clients need access to different videos or can anyone with a password see all videos? Should the videos only be available inside a secure network, or over the internet with a password, what procedures do you have in place to deal with copyright violations, are the videos used purely on-site (fixed or mobile sites?).

There are loads more parameters but they will do for starters.

EDIT: I really wouldn't be hosting such sensitive material on vimeo or any other public website.

Security personnel will have access. Both from our HO and in the field. All videos will be available to all staff, so no tiered system or differentials.

No VPN for field based staff (over 200 at any one time, 600 on the books), so will need to be internet/password based, could that work with mobile devices? Secure areas of a website, what video can IOS play if no flash videos?

It sounds like it could be quite a complicated procedure. Some kind of digital asset management package should be able to meet all your requirements but off the top of my head I don't know which one.

There is also the bandwidth considerations to take into account. How large is the average file, and how many downloads do you get a month?
