I would have gone for STUPID - they were well aware of the health issues and addictive properties BEFORE they decided to have the cigarette, then another one and another one... then they're addicted.

god i wish i knew all the health hazards caused by nicotine when i was 14 or so. I would prolly hold mulitple PhD's by now.

No excuses, lung cancer, emphysema (sp?), circulation problems, breathing problems, early death, etc, were well known when I was a kid in the sixties - I expect you're a lot younger than me, so you should have been even more aware.

However, when you're young, the attraction of danger/risk and a desire to be 'cool' and fit in will often overwhelm any sense one has.
Some things I did when young would have killed, if not maimed, me if they'd gone wrong - i'm a bit smarter now - I hope

!

It seems to be hard to give up, until you REALLY want to - I know people who were able to give up any time they wanted and proved it - repeatedly, it was only when they thought "F*** it", that they were able to finally give up.

If you do give up, you'll certainly get my respect, for what it's worth

I used to smoke when I was about 18-23 and then it was ridiculously hard to give up but I managed it eventually.... I havn't smoked for about 2 years now and if I try one I find it tastes disguisting... Also the thought of cancerous tumors freak me out.
