Glad you enjoyed your short stay in our humble country. I'm not deeply patriotic, but it's always good to hear views from a non-native. Despite it's numerous flaws, London does have a certain charm to it.

i live on the south downs - miles and miles of rolling hills , the seven sisters and lovely and fresh sea air
I often walk the route from Eastbourne through Exceat to Seaford and back again with my father. Beautiful.

I love the South Downs. I've got a walk from Seaford to Eastbourne along the Seven Sisters that I'm intending to do; going to take ~7 hours though.
What are you doing, crawling it?

We tend to take 3 hours to do it and 3 hours back again! [thumbup]

Should check out Norfolk, its a nice part of England.

Walked around 40 miles of the North Norfolk coast last September, took a couple of days and camped one night, my friend and I aren't particularly fast though.

spuddy - you must be running it ; its 13 miles 1 way from seaford to eastbourne along the seven sisters - its known as walk 28 (http://www.walkingclub.org.uk/book_2...28/index.shtml) - the elevation changes is the hardest part;

btw i take my scouts from lewes to exceat - overnighting in alfriston youth hostel as a training navigation exercise

I wouldn't say we run, but we "romp" it. Fast walking, no stopping. We are experienced walkers.
Probably 4 - 5 mph.

Plus that page is estimating miles from the centre of eastbourne/seaford. We start from the nearest road to the hills in eastbourne, the car-park with ice cream shop to a pub in seaford, quick guiness and turn around.

aye the ice cream shop is next to the vanguard way up next to st andrews school , nearest pub in seaford is also close to that end of town... and i didnt guess they meant centre to centre - in that case its about 10 miles 1 way (the one linked is railway station to railway station)

might just have to take the scouts over the tops next time were out

Yeah, that was the walk I was going to do. I've got both books. I highly recommend them. [yes]
