Overcompensation.
Hell, if people can drop out and not work, and still live comfortably from the sweat off everyone else's backs... I think dropping out and WORKING for it should get me SOMETHING!

[rofl] I dropped out when I was 15... to start college. Graduated when I was 19 w/ 2 bachelors. @ that point, going for any kind of equivalency would have been a waste of time.
