. In real life usage, most websites load in a second or two, which is a very big jump from the iPhone 3G. Don't know how much difference the actual OS/Processor make on the phone in real life usage, because my wife's HTC Incredible is also much faster than the iPhone 3G, and it doesn't use the LTE network.
Went from 128MB system memory to 768MB and went from 412MHz to 1GHz. My iPod Touch is clocked faster than a stock iPhone 3G, 533MHz, and overclocked to 620Mhz and even just surfing the internet is slow. Speedtest, the maximum amount of data it can crunch is 15/15 on my 30/30 line.

Sounds more like wireless limitations to me.

hmm, i currently have the incredible and love it. It seems like i was hearing service providers charging an extra $10 or something for 4G, if it's not, as soon as it is available here... I'm game
That's sprint that charges the extra $10 for phones that are 4G capable. Since they are partnered with Clearwire, they pay them a portion of what they charge for wimax (being partners and all). Verizon doesn't have said commitments to another company the same way sprint does.

I could have sworn that they planned to raise the prices for their 4g phones in may.
I could be wrong though.

Interesting this came up... I'm actually thinking about getting a Droid, perhaps tomorrow even... My main consideration is a Droid 2... I really want a keyboard on it, not a virtual keyboard (besides my perference in using it for texting, which I do more than making calls, I'll also throw some emus on there). Are there any other Android phones I should consider that have slide out keyboards (Oh, and I'm on Verizon) ?

They plan to go to a tiered data setup, that really doesn't have much to do if it's 3G or 4G.

You would be surprised how easy it is to get used to the virtual keyboard, or swype.

No clue if you have it on Verizon, but can you get something like a Desire Z?

I was surprised by this too. You may also be surprised how well voice to text works on Android 2.2+ (My friends are amazed how fast I can reply to their texts)

That's debatable. People are saying their battery life isn't much better if not worse when they installed JD there.

Droid 2's probably the closest thing Verizon has. The real keyboard is pretty important for emus, and I just like the feel better (I've had an ipod touch for a few years, and I like the keyboard much better on my LG EnV).

Kind of sucks the Droid X is pretty much better in every way except the keyboard, better camera, built in FM radio, bigger screen, but no keyboard. I don't know why they didn't at least put the Droid X camera on the Droid 2.

Rumors are saying the Droid X2, and Droid 3 are going to be due out around August, and have dual core processors... Kind of wonder if I should wait...Wouldn't really mind getting a Droid 2 now, if I could get a Droid 3 when released at the 2-year contract price (and sell my Droid 2 on ebay or something), but if I already have a 2-year contract from the Droid 2, I doubt I could do that.

Don't use dual core as a factor when considering a phone. At the moment android doesn't support dual core cpu's yet. It's planned, but it won't be out until well after the next phones from moto come out. If you want a good phone, look at the htc merge that's coming out in a month or 2, that one should fit what you're looking for.

My other half and i both have it, she gets @ 36 hours off a full charge on her desire and i get @ 24 on my DHD.

All i can say are contributing factors are if you root it and what roms you use, and also how you configure the set up on juice defender.

It does blow, I have a lot of bloatware on my phone, that is why I am using the task killer. I have already rooted it, which involves a new ROM with this phone... now I'm considering a completely new ROM, but I don't want to lose any features.
If you're rooted, grab the Pro version of Titanium Backup. Besides being an amazing backup proggy, you can "freeze" apps, so as far as the phone is concerned they no longer exist... but you can defrost them and they re-appear [thumbup]

Ditch the task killer for 2.2+... Unless you're isolating EXTREMELY specific apps, they will cause MORE battery drain due to the nature of some apps that will continue to restart once killed. Froyo introduced a much more efficient task manager, so the vast majority of reasons for 3rd party task killers were eliminated.

Never thought i'd do this, but i agree with micron here. The use of task killers in the age of froyo and up isn't needed anymore. Hell, gingerbread (2.3) is the most aggressive when it comes to maintaining your running apps and all. So the use of a task killer on there is even more useless/pointless.

LOL, to help bring balance back to the force...

As far as Juice Defender is concerned, I'm a user (w/ Ultimate Juice). It can't be expected to work miracles, but with the right right settings and kernel I've seen some impressive results.

When I flash something new with a significant change, I'm always careful to properly calibrate my battery (bump charge, delete stats, bump drain) and typically see about a 40-50% improvement in battery life with JD enabled. [thumbup]

Well there is the the problem, most people don't root their phone, much less install a different kernel onto their phone. So with that said, doing the whole new kernel with other stuff can/will produce longer/better battery life, but i think for the regular user who doesn't mess with the system of their phone, JD may not work that well for them.

Well considering I'd be getting a 2-year contract to get the best price on the phone, I don't think dual core would be a bad investment if I plan on being stuck with the same phone for 2 years.

I stopped at Verizon and checked out the Droid 2, and HTC Thunderbolt briefly. Wasn't overly impressed with the Droid 2. Touch screen felt a little sluggish, not nearly as nice as my 2nd Gen iPod Touch. Also, the QWERTY keyboard I did not like nearly as much as the one on my ~4 year old LG EnV. So, I think more than likely, I'll wait for the Droid 3.

The Thunderbolt seemed pretty nice (nice screen and responsive), but I really want/need a physical keyboard.
