Not at all.

Driving in the dark on an unlit motorway at 70mph you need to spot an object in your lane 100m away to have a chance of stopping before hitting it.

If that object is dark and unreflective even with high beams on you'd have trouble... with low beams, no chance.
Well ignoring the fact that you could easily change lane (If motorways are busy there is enough light to see a long way into the distance), how often have you actually come across something in the motorway? Some things just aren't worrying too much about.
