Well ignoring the fact that you could easily change lane (If motorways are busy there is enough light to see a long way into the distance), how often have you actually come across something in the motorway? Some things just aren't worrying too much about.

All I meant was there is an element of luck involved in night time driving at high speeds.

Personally I'm very comfortable driving at night time and do it all the time. I don't think twice about it but I can understand why some may feel uncomfortable.
