I've driven one, it was a rental. What I said was not a knock on your car though, my 8v Jetta is not winning anything. I am just saying a race between what is essentially a Camry and a Lumina is not exciting.
good point... but I doubt the Solara rental you had was the sport model.

It had a V6, and it was gold, that seems sporty.

haha... gold? I'm fairly certain the sports didn't come in that color. [thumbup]

Also, maybe mine is quicker due to the Toyota certified factory ECU flash you could get on 2004 and 2005 models.

kinda got off topic... but I'm passionate. :P

You idiot... you think there arent Americans working in Toyota plants, dealerships, the shipyards, freightliners, and so on?
Toyota has an even BIGGER impact than GM or Ford... Toyota effects EVERYONE.
Haha easy there cowboy. I prefaced my statement as coming from a Detroiter, a perspective of someone from Detroit. Anything that benefits Ford and GM benefits the city and the state. Those are my only concerns until I no longer live. here As for Toyota effecting everyone, quite the contrary as it doesn't effect me. If you don't like my views deal with it. Your opinion of me means absolutely nothing.

Unless you have a forced induction engine that electronically controls boost, a ECU flash will do VERY little. Especially a factory approved flash. Perhaps 10 to 15 HP at the flywheel at best. Forced induction cars only get such a boost because, welll...it ups the BOOST.

Sporty is a term that gets applied to average cars to make them seem like sports cars. A car can be fun to drive, yet still slow as can be. My 93 Escort was that way. It was fun to flick it into a corner, get the tail to slide out a bit. But the stupid thing could still only do a 19.1 @ 71mph. Yes, this is verified, it was THAT slow. Slow enough that I could possibly lose a drag race against a Hummer H2.

What you say is true, but the Solara sport is just a little more than a sticker. There are other performance enhancements including ECU, suspension and appearance. Of course, this does not make it a 370 Z, but it's still quick for a 3500lbs car. The combination of style, class and performance is hard to beat in this class of car. [thumbup]

Here's a pic for kicks.

My car is not one of the affected by recalls so I'm not concerned. I also expect to be driving this car for many more years to come. I hope to garage it some day and break it out just in the summer when I'm like 50 yrs old.

Wow... this is totally off topic. What can I say? I like to talk about cars. :P

Calling him an idiot? Look who is talking.

Regardless of the fact how you feel about EITHER of the companies, it still is a good thing for their competitors. You think that it's not a good thing for GM that their biggest competition is facing huge problems? Is it really so hard to think about it?

The question is this good for the consumer is an entirely different question and anyone with a working brain can differentiate the two.

And for every one of these, a congressional hearing, and the inevitable class-action lawsuit.
This was probably mentioned in the thread, but I wouldn't worry about the hearing(s), looks who is in charge of the committee [rolleyes]

Things are pretty bad when politicians don't even need to pull the thinnest veil over their conflict of interest...nor have the decency to step aside.

I had a side job last month replacing the engine in a Mercury Milan because the owner had not changed the oil in 50,000 miles. thats right, 50,000 mile without an oil change. The oil was so burned and gunkified that there were chunks of sludge. It finally gave out because the cam bearing spun due to lack of lubrication.
You really think this is what makes a good engine? Building it like a brick? When people in Nigeria or Pakistan are happy about such a "feature" I could understand it, but in our environment with a working infrastructure the focus lies on different things you know, like efficiency, mileage, weight, more power with smaller displacement and so on...
