I had quite a few teachers in college that still forced us to do all our math with feet, inches, ounces, etc., and then I would get to physics or chemistry and do everything in metric. I stayed in a constant state of confusion. At work I use a tape measure that has metric measurements on it on one side and the other side has both inches and tenths of a foot on it. A guy asked to borrow it one day and I handed it to him and after staring at it for about 30 seconds he closed it handed it to me and asked if anybody had an american tape measure he could use. I do fire alarm systems, and all of our measurements for device mounting height is listed in inches and feet in the national code books, but working with metric distance is so much easier to do that trying to add something ridiculous like 5/32 + 3/4 when you are doing it all in your head, and trying to keep lots of different measurements in your head at the same time.
