Default just found out that my blood presure is way too high... what can i do?
so i just found out that my blood pressure is high... really high (155/84, with a heart rate of 83)

i need ideas on what i can do in addition to what i have already done:

1.) i have stopped eating sugars that are not naturally in foods

2.) i have stopped drinking(not that i drank much before)

3.) i have switched to eating leafy greens and other veggies and fruits for meals as well as light dressings

4.) for breakfast i have switched to orange juice blended with black berries, blue berries, strawberries, and rasberries, or cherrios with fruit and no sugar

5.) no more soda just water

6.) I have also started walking 1 to 2 miles per day

7.) trying to get off of some meds that raise blood pressure

I would say stick with that and you should be good.

If it's that high though did the doc not suggest any kind of med's?

Go see a doctor and get meds for it.

You may changed diet, but maybe you do wrong about that.

Hey, your on the right track---even if it is genetics---still the change in lifestyle is a must and can help major change---just the intake of more water and less soda, exercise, and changes in eating habits will greatly help. The biggest and I mean the biggest thing that you can do it...are you ready? Here it comes...CONSISTENCY

More people have changed their lives because they stayed with it and that's what I encourage people all the time with---consistency. Stick-to-it-ness! All good and new habits must become so much a part of your life that it is right up there with brushing your teeth...choice is already made just do it and keep doing it. [thumbup]

I have 150/100... 21 years old. I did blood/urine work, and I go to the doc in a few days for final verdicts.

Avoid salty foods or food with a high "sodium" content

don't add salt to anything you eat.

Eat less red meat.. eat more chicken and fish

Well, I turn 41 in June and my blood pressure is 120 over 75 with 50 bpm...but remember I run marathons and typically run 5-8 miles daily...I have had my bpm get down to 35 whihc freaks out my Dr....but my heart, lungs and basic cardio is in pretty good shape...but to be honest I get tired sometimes of my routine that I have held onto since February of 2001.

My bpm is 58 and I thought I was good.

(I run marathons too, though, usually half-marathons. )

As was said earlier eat less salt, your body will draw in and retain less water, and your blood pressure will go down. If you know your chemistry or bio its because your body is a semipermiable membrane, once you let a lot of salt in your body liquids will tend towards staying in you rather than being excreted as they are attracted to the osmotic gradient of your body.

I was not totally in rest. My heartbeat in rest is around 62 ~ 65.

I do smoke and drink as well, and I am aware it is not the most healthiest lifestyle I have. But I wouldn't want it any other way.
My father has high bloodpressure. Once in a while he is using such a bloodpressure meter for use at home. When he is checking his and I am around, I am doing it too.

I have very good genes. My grandfather was very good crosscountryskier (sp?) and my mom was a pretty good long distance runner. When I was younger my rest bpm was ~35, like movieman's. Now a days it's around 50. I should really start working out again. (Not that I'm fat but running long distance isn't as easy as it used to be.)

eat a normal amount of salt

if you exercise a lot an have a VERY low salt intake you will be prone to cramp

your joint will have less fluid around them and therefore wear more quickly on a very low salt diet IF you are exercising heavily
