It wouldn't make any difference. You'd just be converting from RGB to component and the quality would just be the same as what ever the RGB is.

Edit: Unless your TV doesn't have an RGB SCART input but does has component.

Edit#2: And that doesn't even say anything about RGB, just composite, which a crap connection in the first place.

basically bungly old bean.

what Im doing is this:

running all my AV equiptment through a joy tech av switcher 245c

Running it all through Component so All I'll have connected to the telly is a single Component cable

and If I can do that for me Sky (SD) then that will be a bonus !

the AV switcher has the option for Composite connection but that then means I have to put another cable to the TV if you know what I mean [yes]

and basically as we all know SD picture on a fully HD enabled tv Will always look poo

and in answer to your RGB question:

Q) Will this covert the RGB signal from the scart output from a SKY box to component in on a TV? - Charles
A) yes you can

Having read through the questions on the site it seems it does convert RGB to component (although I would double check this before purchase just to make sure). If what you're connecting to your Sky to your AV switcher now is composite then it will improve the picture (assuming it converts RGB).

the Av switcher doesn't do converting basically its a very handy Component output switcher/router.

the Scart converter will do the job of converting and then its literally straight to the telly via component interconnect.

if ive done me sums right of course

its only 25 quid tho

I dought it will improve it as the source from the scart will be 480i or 567i.
The only improvement could be from a component lead having a thicker cauge of wire.
Pure guess`s though.

"Maximizes video performance by converting composite video enabled SCART output directly to component video"

That just doesnt make any sense to me how does that adapter take a single video signal and split it into RGB, and surely if you bought this adapter you would want a RGB enabled scart output?

If he's been using composite and switches to RGB it will improve the quality of the picture (but won't make it HD). As I read it he wants to buy the convertor so he can connect his Sky box to his AV switcher which doesn't have SCART inputs and have everything running through component.

That's what I meant: the converter doing the converting. But it's only worth buying it if it converts RGB.

Edit: Don't expect HD quality though.

well ive just been reading up on those old thompson sky HD boxes that had component and hdmi out puts and you can put ur SD old card in and it will act like a standard sky digital box but with the bonus of outputting via hdmi and component.

but basically that's a lot extra mohoney for something that this converter can do.

so the Thompson box will be an last ditch option if the converter don't work

Could you split open a scart lead and solder 3 male RCA plugs onto the scarts red green and blue wires?
As i could guess thats what this adapter is doing?

The best way to get a decent improvement out of a standard sky box is to just get a decent scart cable.

The cheapy ones can really impact the already compressed and crappy image that sky pumps out.

He wants to connect it to a component input, not RGB so that wouldn't work. Most probably it would also compromise image quality unless he does an extremely professional job.
