I suffer badly in cars as a passenger (although I am fine when driving). This is because we rely on a visual reference for most of our balance information, once that conflicts with the inner ear we get disorientated and sick. When you tip your head down while also moving in a vehicle the inner ear (semicircluar canals) gives you information that contradicts the visual image. It's so common for people to get disorientated this way, that it's actively taught never to do this as a pilot. |
