Default Another reason I hate Wal-Mart
I walked in to Wal-Mart on friday. I do this with my 10 yr old son every time I pick him up. We usually do pizza and a DVD on our weekend together, otherwise I don't set foot in the place. I happened to have him last weekend as well and noticed that they were changing around the DVD aisles again. Well, when we get there this weekend I've noticed that they've raised the prices on DVD's by $5.00!!!! That may not sound like much to you but damn! With the recession going on the way it is and people looking to keep their money tight, here goes Wal-Mart gouging the public again. Grrrrrrr.[cursing][cursing][cursing]

So only walmart is raising prices? if that's the case, why not get them somewhere else. If not, why is it walmarts fault. At any rate, just get a dvd from the 5$ pile.

I don't know if it's just them. I just noticed that I went to pick up Madagascar 2 and that it and all other DVD's had gone up. They are making a killing and still trying to make more.

Must have just been your walmart. Sucks though. I was just at walmart yesterday and they were all the regular prices here. Hell i picked up Repo! The genetic opera for only $15 and it just came out a week or so back.

Normally a Walmart will go into a small town or city and keep prices so low for awhile that smaller places go out of business and then they go in for the kill and raise prices.

That's the thing though, skyward, that store has been there for 15 years or better.

Walmart profit in 2008= 13.5 billion
2007= 12.3 billion

Insane profits like this in a recession is disgusting to me.

Were all of their titles raised by $5.00 or was it just a few of them?

I personally either buy my movies from Amazon.com (mainly BD) or I use my Netflix account.

All of them. I even went to look for the DVD I bought last week, "Hulk Vs" and it was $5.00 more!

That is ridiculous, certainly a reason to stop buying movies from them.

How much exactly are the movies? You do know though that sometimes when the movie first comes out that first weekend they have a sale on them right? And after that they go upto the full price of $20 for most dvd's and $25-30 for BD.

Damn, wish mine had underworld for $10, I'd pick that up in a heartbeat to have on BD. Considering it's on the top of the list of favorite movies.

They went from $14.99 to $19.99. I thought $14.99 was reasonable for the generic, no extras disk.

For the first weekend it's that price, but after that it's back upto $20, the package with the extra's is usually $24 or so.

That money always gets reinvested into the company! I wouldn't think that a company only selling $1 billion wouldn't be doing all too hot at all. Heck, they wouldn't get invested in to expand even further. Then in a economy like this could always close up shop and loss jobs. Walmart is making tons of money, being invested in, reinvesting the money and creating jobs.

Without that profit from Walmart, we may not have gotten our Walmart here in the year 2008 in my town which creates 400 jobs for the local community.

I don't shop at Walmart myself either, I had rather spend my money elsewhere and the prices really are not all that different. Anyways, I support profits like that and all the jobs that they directly and indirectly create. Walmart after all is the largest employeer in the United States and they have a large role into our economy, and it is better for them to have cash flow like that rather then be crawling to the Federal Government to get a $25 Billion loan and get it because they employ so many people.

I don't shop at walmart anymore after I moved and there are plenty of better stores closer.

Before I moved though walmart was the only big store around. Walmart is the only store I've ever been ID'd at when buying ammo. I've also gotten the stink eye when buying cough syrup. I'm 26 and do not see how someone could mistake me for not being 18.

that is the problem with walmart...they move in, create these jobs...then the other stores around start to fail...and 400 better paying jobs are lost. A walmart is a net loss for any community eventually.

I remember getting ID'ed for buying condoms. Yeah, apparently you have to be 18 to buy them from Wal-Mart. Way to support teenage pregnancy...I'm 28 BTW.
