Yeah, 7 episodes and I watched every single one of them.

Extremely great series. I loved it and it is worthy of a watch.

It's outstanding television, up there with The Wire. Why is HBO alone with this kind of quality? [/rhetorical]

the wire, bar none, is the best TV i can think of over the last decade. Generation kill is good too.

I saw all episodes.. it's pretty ok, but not THAT great... I guess if you like endless dialogue and close ups on intense faces it could be good... Band of Brothers was way more intense, but I guess this show wasn't really trying to be that way. It was more showing the military problems and what life in military is like if you aren't fighting.

That moive had no feeling at all, the story totally sucked. Lately I have been unlucky with good movies, the last really good must be Equilibrium..

Yeah, the story did kind of suck since it was true! lol.
I liked it myself. Granted, not the best, and current are better, but I still liked it. Action wise, it problably has the most action out of any modern war though.
Jarhead, Three Kings, The Kingdom, Generation Kill imo are all very good but no where near the action that was seen in BHD.
Iraq films seem to portray a lot more of soldiers going through the hells of war, but rarely, if any at all, actually get to witness it, use their training and kill people.

Myself, WW2 films are still the best by far, but I try not to compare current films with WW2 films. Each war is completely different, for different causes, with different attitudes.
Myself, I can't stand watching Vietnam movies. Very few that I actually like. If you want a messed up war, that is were you can truly find one!

Black Hawk Down had no feeling at all ?

I'm not saying it's a masterpiece but it's not half bad.

Where you really falter is when you mention Equilibrium as being a good movie. Oh, the humanity !!

It's created, written and produced by the same two guys who did "The Wire" and it's HBO as well.

It can't not be good.

(I'm not stereotyping. I'm analyzing the credibility of this show. So, don't give me a PC lecture about soldiers.)

This doesn't work at all. I realise this is fiction but still.

Soldiers in general don't seem to reflect on these issues or think about religion in this manner or even associate it with their job in any form unless it's to seek comfort or moral. It really makes this very very awkward. It's not natural and it really ruins any point this show is trying to get across. Really strange to watch.

Oh yes they do. The clip I posted with the chaplin is a good example. Towards the end they talk about how he affects their jobs - i.e he is another mouth to feed, does not carry a gun so they are expected to protect his arse; how he won't hump ammo etc. They even point out that the reporter will pick up a gun if needed, but the chaplin won't.

Its the army way to deconstruct everything into how it affects you. Trust me when I say that soldiers have an opinion on EVERYTHING, especially officers! Sure, some of the language used in Generation Kill might be a bit more "wordy" than the usual exchanges, but the thrust of the conversations are definately right.

Fair points there hehe..but Im the opposite like you, I totally hate WW2 movies because they are so mainstream and too many of them altough Vietnam can be a little interesting because it's few of them and so on..

Yes, Equilibrium is a lot better movie. It showed how the world would be without feelings and I thought it was pretty good, funny and interesting how everything turned out. Now you maybe thought I meant it was the one of the best movie every but then I would say good or great in my movie history but best of them recently, Black Hawk Down only had visions about war and pure simple action which Im no fan of and also, I have heard so many people that have been in war like that always say "what is in the movies or games, it's never like that in the real world". Also, Black Hawk Down was as someone said based on a true story and trying to show realism which I'm no fan of either.

I would recommend it to anyone who wants to know how the invasion of Iraq and the first days of occupation were for the troops on the ground. Should be mandatory for anyone that wants to voice an opinion about the war and the people that were in it.
