Default Comcast on the pathway of change
Very bad change.

http://torrentfreak.com/comcast-vs-b...s-next-080821/

Bittorrent speeds have not been reduced as far as I know. I read somewhere that Comcast can't do anything if you encrypt your connections, so that is what I have been doing and haven't noticed anything.

I really hope that they don't throttle people down or put up caps. I don't think that I would be effected by throttling, because I live way out in no where and don't get any of the effects of too much traffic on the cable line. Though I think that I would get effected by caps.
Comcast doesn't seem to be making smart choices. Their is DSL in the area that will make due if need be. As well, our Power Company is in the processes of laying down Fiber Optic. Going to be 10% cheaper then Comcast and offer 5x the speed minimum.
I just don't get why you would offer speeds and advertise 6Mb and 8Mb downloads, but then cap or throttle you. That is just wrong. You pay for a service and you had better get that service to the full extent. If you cap, might as well lower your speeds and reduce your prices, as well if you throttle users.

If these changes do start going down, I really hope that they get attacked by hackers hardcore. By the time, we will be on Fiber Optic, but still. lol.
Comcast has been so lazy here, all they have done is raised their prices, and fight the Power Company in Court which they have lost 3 times. Yet Comcast still does nothing to upgrade their infrastructure. Once the Power Company gets online, Comcast is seriously screwed!

I'm using comcast here, no complaints so far. i do like the download speeds compared to my old verizon DSL service. I also like the easier management of my wireless home networking options better on comcast. I hate PPoe and but i do miss the dynamic IP tho of verizon. FIOS is out of the question for me, as for its not eligible for my neighborhood. download speeds on comcast cable is about 5x faster than DSL. However for gaming , its about the same speeds. but i get lag all the time on this forum , does anyone else have the same problems?

i don't like comcast as a company, but i must say, I'm almost 100% satisfied with thier online service. They have been steadily increasing thier download and upload speed at no charge, so I can't complain. It's a wise strategy because they have definately seperated themselves as superior to DSL as far as speed goes. DSL, however, has an advantage in price. Most of my customers who are mild internet users, I actually recommend ATT DSL lite for $19.99 as it is plenty fast and best bang for buck for moderate internet usage/ However, If they start to offer FIOS in my neighborhood for comparable speeds, I will drop comcast like a rock.

I don't use comcast for TV, rather, Directv for HDTV and love it.

If you're referring to BPL that tech is pure crap. I doubt we'll ever see internets, phone, t.v. service using that technology. There's been trial runs, and for the most part it sucks. Inferior to cable and DSL. Rural areas might benefit from it, but you'd do better with satellite.

Yup...Right from the same outlet you plug in your lamp and stuff. I wasn't sure either but I did hear it someware so I looked it up.

Here's one article http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/busine...werline16.html

Still fiber optic is better.

A paragraph from the article>>>>>

Known as broadband over power lines, or BPL, the technology uses a special modem that plugs into electrical outlets. So far, it has been offered at speeds of 1 to 3 megabits a second, which is comparable to broadband service over cable modems or conventional phone lines -- though not as fast as the 5 megabits a second achievable through the residential fiber-optic lines just now being introduced.

I'm in a city so I will stick with Time W unless it is way cheaper.

I guess the pirates will have to do things the old fashioned way. Earn some money, go to the store, and buy your movies, games and music. I just feel bad for those who might get throttled who pay for whatever large file they are getting be it a movie or game...or whatever. Or on line gamers..if it effects that. I mean admit it. Most torrents are pirate copies of stuff being distributed for free but it is ingenious and has many legitimate uses to.. Here in my area Time W distributes all their wireless cable modems with the ports closed seriously handicapping any wireless PC downloading a torrent. Not the hard wired ones. They say it is for security reasons.

I'm on comcast and the past few days every time I download something on bit torrent my network stops responding completely after 10 minutes or so. I'm starting to get very upset with Comcast.

Try encrypting your stuff. Incoming and outcoming, at least for bittorrents.

BPL? What is that? As I said earlier, Power Company is lying down Fiber Optic like mad. That is what the service is going to be running through. First company in this area to Fiber Optic anything. They already have their service for big business downtown and it is pretty awesome.
They said that once they are done, they are going to be in the top list for the fastest service available.

Yes mzman, EPB is going to offer Phone, TV and Internet. They have said better then Comcast, and cheaper then Comcast.
