What the heck is a Cuil? That name is to stupid for me to use it.
Cuil is the Irish word for knowledge, so I actually think it's pretty cool (could be biased since I am Irish). Come to think of it, if you list a bunch of words that are frequently used, they make no sense at all (what the hell is a google ).

Results are shockingly bad.

Back to Google.

The layout for me is something I like over Google, but it works far too slowly compared to google. Also, the results are terrible - just try and search for 'Futuremark discussion' and you don't even get a link to the forums. [thumbdown]

Google is simply leaps and bounds over this.

I like the layout, but that's it really. You'd think the focus when you build a new search-engine would be to actually get good & relevant search results, but obviously something went wrong along the way.

Besides, for people who really don't want to use Google, there's still quite a few other semi-decent ones around. Altavista is pretty good. And it has Babel Fish!

I'm not impressed either, but keep in mind it's still in its infancy. Google has had years to fine tune its search engine. I remember a few years back when Valve's Steam first debuted and had a few technical problems, virtually everyone on these boards were prophesizing Steam's certain failure.

WTF.

I searched for "insmod" i.e. Insurgency Mod, the free HL2 multiplayer mod, with their webpage at www.insmod.net.

Google - first result returned. [thumbup]

Cuil - nothing on the first 10 pages, after which I gave up.

EPIC FAIL!

I understand that a new search engine can't be perfect and that they need to do some finetuning. But Cuil doesn't need finetuning, it needs a complete overhaul.

The difference between Cuil and Google: Google finds the stuff I'm searching for. [yes]

This thing royally sucks. The layout isn't too bad. I like their homepage. But my God the results are crap.

I dunno how they rank their pages... but it sucks. The top relevant results were just sites that randomly contain the word.

Another problem is the size. Many offices use 1280X1024 as their standard rez. The page cuts off a little so you have to scroll quite often. Not huge, but annoying still. Its not bad with google because its single column results. But with the way they arrange their results scrolling becomes a much bigger issue.

Cuil sucks so bad they're not even the top result on their own search engine. :P

I tried cuil, cuil search, and cuil search engine. That's just pathetic.

Maybe because in my comfort zone a search engine returns the 100% match to my search query. Something tells me that Cuil hadn't really indexed the 100s of billions of pages they said they had. Either way their algorithm ain't that hot.

Someone try this and see if its just me. Refresh the page non-maximized, THEN maximize the window. The bottom bar for me gets stuck mid screen. Not a big deal, but it was mildly annoying since I like to work with a lot of non-maximized windows then maximize them when I want to work solely with that app/site.

I'm at work BTW, so it could just be that I'm using IE6 and not IE7.

Not only that, i go to second page and,
We didn’t find any results for “china”

Some reasons might be...
  • a typo. Please check your spelling.
  • your search includes a term that is very rare. Try to find a more common substitute.
  • too many search terms. Please try fewer terms.
Finally, try to think of different words to describe your search.
I guess most of them left .
