We aren't using it because

A. It's new

B. Still lots of research and testing being done.

There is a reason why people in the last decade have told people to invest in health/medicine markets.

The next 20 years you are going to see some amazing advances in this area. I was reading in a science health mag about some of the things they are trying.

I am a bit skeptical on how this particular technique might all turn out in the short term

On the other hand, medical science has been converging in this direction for a long time. Unlocking/manipulating/controlling the body's own repair mechanisms is the obvious next step in bringing human medicine out of the cut and paste paradigm of the last few hundred years.

Everything I have seen says that this is just the beginning.

It sounds incredible but I think it's true. I saw the following video on TED a while back: http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/view/id/142

This is an example of why one should not support alternative methods (alternative medicine is methods that have been proven to not work or have not been subjected to testing for some reason) but instead spend money where it counts to promote actual medical progress.
