I understand that McCafes are pretty typical down there. Is Starbucks also very typical there? Would anyone who enjoys coffee and has attended both care to comment on the differences in atmosphere, quality, wait times, popularity, public impression, etc. and maybe indicate which they generally prefer?

every mcCafe ive ever seen has always been totally empty. im guessing wait times would be rather good, but theres probably a reason why they dont go there.
there seems to be mcCafe stores than starbucks stores, atleast around my area i havent seen many starbucks, while they arent crowded, the ones i have seen have always had more people in them our out infront of them. i dont drink coffee so can't comment anymore. |

In Malta the only Mc Cafe in in the other island where I live, Gozo.
The coffee is the best on the island and you can only get a frappucino from there. Pastries, snadwiches and the rest are pretty good as well since most pastries are cooked right there and then inside the very cafe. No Starbucks etc here but if I had the money I'd try to get the franchise over and open a couple of outlets. /Dream on Alex. |

Here in S.A. there is pretty much a McCafe in all McDonalds. Starbucks is pretty rare, I only know of two in Adelaide. I actually don't like either McCafe or Starbucks the coffee tastes like arse. Wait times at Starbucks is God awful which is another reason I don't go there, McCafe is pretty quick because the coffee sucks and not many people go to them. The atmosphere at McCafe is just like that of any McDonalds a bunch of little shits running around, no music, your general maccas bogans. Starbucks at least has music, but like I said the coffee sucks and the wait times are crazy. I normally go to Gloria Jeans much better coffee and a much better atmosphere and wait times are pretty good.
So to summarise, both suck, there are many other coffee chains which are MUCH better. |

Theres a few McCafe's around here. Usually one in every McDonalds. Though I've seen a few separate to McDonalds. I've never seen Starbucks though. I do remember watching an episode of the Simpsons when Bart got his ear's pierced, after he left the shop every shop was sold to Starbucks.
What is Starbucks anyway? |

There are alot of McCafe's and Starbucks in Sydney, both with equally crappy coffee imo. I dont think Gloria Jeans is much better either.
If you are in the area or coming, i'll let you know where some really good places are [thumbup] Also, in SA, isn't there a chain of Cibo stores which make pretty good coffee? I havent seen them in Sydney but i remember them from when i used to live in Adelaide. |
