Default Question about oranges(the fruit)
Why sometimes when you eat an orange is there a very small orange on the inside top of it??

Im confused why does this sometimes happen and what could cause this??

Answers/discussion on a postcard pls...

Its just an anomily when the friut is growing. I work at a supermarket and I have seen this happen with eggplants, cucumbers, capsicums and a few others. Its just a natural thing that randomly happens. It can be pretty funny.

Regular oranges have pips but Navel Oranges don't - rather they have a smaller fruit within the main fruit.

Could that be what you're thinking of?

It's not an anomoly, or random, it's a product of the process that allows us to grow seedless varieties of fruit.

It was of course originally a mutation, but now it is present due to cuttings and grafts being grown from successive plants (seedless fruit can obviously not be used for cultivation) to produce more fruit that fits consumers need.
