I play WoW at home and work on a PC at work. And lately I have been getting what feels like a heavy head and eye strain after long periods of being on my home PC. Don't think this is happening at work so I'm thinking its not something do to with long viewing of PC screens (which is something I have done my whole life).
Stuff thats changed with home setup: 1. Using 42" HDTC as main display (note have had this for some time and this is a new problem). 2. Using 50htz instead of 60htz in desktop and games (thinking this may be an issue). 3. Having TV playing next to monitor while surfing more. Other stuff: - I sit only a few feet away from the screen by neccesity - Have had none perfect vision for a long time, but it hasn't caused many problems in the past. Basically wondering what I could believably alter to try and fix this, the screen is my main display and needs to remain so as there isn't an alternative, besides, would rather not give it up as it really is amazing at what it does. Considering getting eyes tested to tbh, perhaps its simply time I needed glasses, even though imo they aren't practicle as you always end up relying on them in the end... |

When watching TV normally I dont need my glasses. However when watching a movie or playing WoW for 12 hours straight I better use them or I get radging headaches that only go away after a shower, 4 advil, a beer, and about a 2 hour nap...
I would suggest getting your eyes checked out. I never had that problem until I got into a bar fight and got punched in the face so hard my left eye is now ovalish in shape. So...I require glasses to see clearly. In your case since you mention nothing about drunken stupidity it might just be normal age/wear and tear. I was told by a doctor a while back as well that playing games and all that can make your eyes try to focus very quickly which can add strain to your eyes. Also he mentioned proper lighting in the room. He stated "I know its fun to turn the lights off and play doom 3 in the dark but it can cause more strain on your eyes." |

The refresh rate is actually the first thing I am looking at as a solution. Have put it back to 60htz even though that means 1:1 pixel mapping doesnt happen unless I use the overscan mode on the TV. 50htz is slightly sharper but its a metter of preference really and the picture is still perfect. Will report back as to whether it really has made a diff

I used to get bad headaches from playing in the dark. It was all solved when i got one of those desklamps that are flat and use a tube. I put this behind my monitor pointing at the wall behind and they stopped.
You dont get the glare on the screen, and the lamp only lights around you or the wall your looking at. Could try that. |

if it's an LCD TV then it wont matter if it's 50 or 60Hz. As LCD's don't scan like a CRT does. The thing about the light may well be an issue, as I always play in the dark, but then again I always have so its not a new thing. Would simply having a lamp on somewhere in the room be enough, or does the space behind the TV have to be illuminated? |
