An...... interesting observation. I might point out that there is almost zero modern recorded music that leaves the singers voice completely unaltered, but otherwise I leave your statement to its merits. I just try to forget about it and enjoy the music... but that techno alteration to a voice gets on my nerves. |

I have to say, there's nothing in the song that indicates to me that the singer is bad at singing. Altering one's voice does not necessarily indicate that one cannot sing. |

The reaction to this has been pretty eye-opening for me. But now I am curious, too. How many people who instantly rejected this music went on to look at a few more of the womens songs as a reality check, before coming to their irrevocable and binding conclusions?
I include one of her more "commercial" and recognizable (Though still quirky) songs as a "control" in the experiment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKZsZkH_MJc&feature=related Still absolute garbage? (I suspect so, but I want to be sure of what I am seeing) |

I don't listen to much "modern" music (~1995- present). There are of course new songs I like and for some reason this one is one of them. I don't know what it is, but I really like this song. Maybe it was the SNL skit that did it.
![]() Either way, give me some classic rock and I will rock out all day [yes] edit - The second one is alright, but I don't like it as much as the first one. |

In too much modern music, I feel like I have heard it all before again and again. (like there is a factory somewhere, churning out pop, all done by the same person, for different artists) I appreciate somebody going out on a limb and trying to do something new and unique, even if I don't wind up liking it. |

I appreciate somebody going out on a limb and trying to do something new and unique, even if I don't wind up liking it. I agree 100%. As a musician myself I can appreciate something new and innovative, however I have no time for this rap and pop that is churned out by the bucket load these days. [thumbdown] (although I do have the odd guilty pleasure i.e., Gwen Stefani ![]() |

But generally, while she's pretty, I don't think she'll have a good voice... people with a good voice don't distort it electronically. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgcIpKL86Jk |

Well I can assure you her voice is quite good. The other songs on her album she has put her voice through a lot less treatment. Also, have you seen the movie Garden State? Even if you haven't you might recognize this song by Frou Frou where she is the lead singer. ![]() |

Its such a shame that when someone does not like a piece of art they describe it at crap/rubbish...
If everyone followed these people what a boring place this planet would be. I for one can take it or leave it, yet what i find funny is they mock her voice when they cant even hear it due to the treatment. Its strange that this is the case when nearly every modern day artist has there voice overlayed many times to remove the imperfections. In actual fact im sitting here pissed off at the response the OP got. One mans trash is another mans gold... and if you day is raised by finding this then im happy for you, (ps i quite liked the second one) thanks for sharing.. [thumbup] |

I've listened to a LOT of music. I listen to anything. I've even given death metal a try until I had to take a nap to get rid of my headache... but this chick definitely falls into my list of artists who have tried and failed. The only thing redeeming is the fact that its used in the dear sister spoofs. Those were mildly amusing.
I've heard worse. However, I definitely wouldn't consider her radio worthy. IMO she's on the same level as a decent garage band. She doesn't suck, but I definitely wouldn't willingly listen to her music. Having listened to a few of her songs they're just "o.k." and I'm not a fan of her voice. To be completely honest I'd rather listen to Britney's new album. And that's sad. |

To be completely honest I'd rather listen to Britney's new album. And that's sad. ![]() Imogen Heap(born December 9, 1977) is an English singer-songwriter from Romford, London, most famous for her work as part of Frou Frou and for her 2005 solo record Speak for Yourself. In 2006, she was nominated for two Grammy Awards... ...Imogen Heap played music from an early age, and is classically trained in many instruments, including the piano (her first instrument), cello and clarinet. She later taught herself to play the guitar, drums, and the array mbira.[2] She had begun to write songs by the time of her thirteenth birthday... ...She signed her first record contract at the age of 18 to independent record label Almo Sounds, having enjoyed a prestigious live debut, performing four songs, which happened to be backed by her closest friends including the band Acacia, between sets by The Who and Eric Clapton at the 1996 Prince's Trust Concert in Hyde Park, London organized by Kyle Browne in 1998. Quite a list of credentials for someone who's only on the same level as a "decent garage band." Everyone has different tastes, and if you don't like something, that's your opinion (and that's just fine). But it drives me nuts when people downplay someone's obvious talent just because they don't like their music, art, etc etc. |
