Today he tried to feed me some bullcrap story about how large dogs are not accepted nor have they ever been.
So here's the story. In December of 2005 I moved into my current apartment. At the time they accepted "large dogs" but only based on an interview (complex wanted to make sure dogs were not aggressive towards people). There were no breed or size restrictions. So I moved in, and took my 65lb Shepherd/Husky mix Angel with me. She recently passed away April 10th, 2007. ![]() Finally moving on, I decide its time to adopt again. And I find this beautiful Husky mix thats about 45lbs. Great personality, good with cats, dogs and people. Older, just looking for a home. So I submit my application. I got refused because the Adoption agency said the Apartment Manager wouldn't accept dogs over 30lbs. So I call to verify this with my landlord and he says that the apartment complex has NEVER accepted dogs over 30lbs. This i know is a lie, because I had to bring Angel in for an interview with the Apartment manager before I could sign the lease. Angel stood as high as a 6 foot tall mans hip, no way she even looked remotely close to 30lbs. Now the reason I'm really upset is because just 2 months ago I had a new neighbor move in across the hall, and he's got a Rott mix thats a whopping 80lbs, not as big as a full Rott but still! He's freaking HUGE, with a barrel shaped chest the size of a cannon. This dog could yank a grown man off his feet and drag him through a field. So, I asked him if he was aware of my neighbors dog and he said he was. I asked if he knew he was over 30lbs and the landlord said yes. So i'm really upset at this point and tell him I will call him back. I'm really upset with this double standard. He's got the nerve to lie over the phone to me and tell me no dogs over 30lbs, but is perfectly aware that the neighbor he let sign a lease 2 months ago has a dog well over 30lbs. _________________ I guess this goes hand in hand with the "we accept large dogs but none over 30lbs" that Apartment complexes love to spout. If a 30lb dog is considered large what is a 90lb German Shepherd considered? Extra large? Lets not forget a Bull Mastiff which can come in well over 200lbs. Large to me is just about any dog up to 100lbs. After that you are getting into extra large territory. BTW, my complex also sports 2 dobermans, 1 malamute (think super big husky), and several German Shepherds. |
