My old Acer laptop an 800 series, was one of the best laptops I have ever owned, it was nearly as well put together as my Armada M700, and it is better put together than the business laptops my mom has had from Dell though were she works, And it was much more reasonably priced, than either.
Acer has come back with a vengeance in the last 3~4 year, they are making a habit of getting the newest tech to the market faster than anyone else, with a better price, and in laptops that are pretty well built, especially considering the prices. In fact I read that they passed Toshiba and became the #3 retailer of Laptops in the world a while ago. |

acers build quality is a little lower then hp/compaq/mac/dell etc. but internal components are as good as any other brand. much better then laptops like ecs/msi etc. builds. i had a dell laptop before then this is the 2nd acer i have the looks of it is definitely less appealing then hp/mac but still very good quality and great price/performance laptops. same goes for their lcd monitors. i have no idea about their desktops tho. i dont know why acers buying gateway is such a bad news to some ...

Acer used to be absolute crap. But they have improved significantly in the last couple years. Their tech staff are very good - although you do have to wait for them (I waited 30 mins. and 40 mins. before). However they were US-based with no thick accents, and they were not morons reading off pre-printed cards like they do @ Dell. Personally I don't care about waiting: that is what speakerphone is for. Plus I fire up the XBox to pass the time...
The only beef I have with them, is that they run hotter than the HPs I sell. Otherwise they are also very aggressively priced. I would still get an HP over Acer because of better displays, better cooling, and better GFX chipsets but Acer's are worth the low amount of money they cost! As for obtaining Gateway, that is not bad. Gateway remained crappy lol. Hopefully they will do to Gateway what HP did to Compaq: gut them out and basically only have the chassis different along with the sticker. Acer does make "Ferrari" laptops now...maybe the Gateways would be the low-consumer end machines or something... |

I work at an authorised Toshiba Repair center... We also do out of warranty repairs on any other model, mostly Dells/Comp/HP/Acer. And out of all of them the Toshibas are the worst pieces of crap I've ever worked with... Although the Qosmio series are good... Their price is way off for what you get.... Too expensive. The Acers I have worked on mostly Tablets are VERY sturdy. Compared to tecra/satellite/portege tablets the acer is by far the best one and cheap too. Dells are not that bad, I love working on them since they are so simple.. Toshiba has been lacking alot in the customer service department and lets not forget how poorly build the A105/A135 were. The P105 series had something I liked to call "P105 syndrome"... Where the mem slots would go bad and cause repeated blue screens... Happend to mine before i solt it. All A205s have wireless issues, dvd-rw issues, and lets not forget power management issues. The A75/A70/M35x/M30x by toshiba WERE SO BAD that the state of california sued Toshiba. All owners of those 3 models have extended warranty till November of 2007. So if you were unfortunate enough to have bought one.... You still have warrranty. Toshiba sucks sucks sucks sucks.... god its horrible.
I noticed I have alot of typos... it's late im sleepy :P night night |

HP makes good laptops? WTFH are you smoking? they make some of the worst computers I have ever seen, I put them below Dell in terms of being defective, made of cheap plastic and easy to break, the company will constantly try to invalidate your warranty they did it to my Compaq after the "merger" they just said sorry, you never had a warranty, and all the proof you have dosn't exist, one of their Regional managers for Customer Care, Called me something like " a little bullshit Motherf***ing liar scumbag," told me to F***off and threw his phone into the wall while talking to me. And for the record the build quality of Compaq's Armada/Evo line was lightyears ahead of any of the garbage that HP has ever or likely will ever put out and call a computer. A couple of my college friends had HP's they all had the same problem where the PCI bus was running way out of spec at like 50 mhz which caused all kinds of hardware failures, and I dont want to even get into some of the other crap they have pulled like hiding part of the Bios on the HD in an attempt to force people to use HP upgrade parts and service.
oh and Toshiba's built in BT is an abomination, I work tech support and we commonly have to disable it to get aircards or DUN's though a phone working. |

i used a dv9000z series laptop and it was amazingly good quality in terms of the plastic they used and battery's position and it not moving after a little while of use. paint they use is very good quality as well it doesnt wear off in time easily (except the gray mousepads that one starts coming off in time which i hate on a laptop). also my brother uses a dv6000 series hp laptop with c2d cpu same with that one, everything is very good quality. as for acer plastic they use seems to be a little less quality and less costy. also battey seems to get a little lose very quickly. gray (alum) finish they use seems to get little spots on it quickly and seems to show the black plastic they used under it. mouse pad seems to be very nice tho. also keyboard seems to get shiny quicker then hp's. but again rest of the laptop is built very solid and doesnt start cracking making sounds etc. i really should put up that review about laptops soon .. but man i am too lazy. for toshiba they use very high quality matterials like hp but i cant say the same for their technical support or support in general. i never had a toshiba laptop but used their pocket pc's and their support was a nightmare.

acer is actually one of the biggest laptop producers right now. mostly because of their pricing, but hey who would complain about low prices ? I replied.... "Thats what you get for spending $499 dollars on a laptop". I turned them all away but i did offer them mem upgrades to improve it a little bit... The toshiba A135 $499 laptop came with a 1.8ghz Celeron CPU and 512mb of ram with VISTA. I hated those laptops.... Took eternity to get into windows... and another decade to turn in the POS off... omg it was REALLY bad when it had 6 updates to install during shut off... took 20min. |

almost everyone who bought the toshiba $499 A135 laptop.... Came into my store complaining about "why is it so slow?" for the price i got this acer there was no other branded laptop that could match the stuff on it (which i migth change on the weekend btw for a toshiba even tho i know they have the worst support). for $899 i got coreduo 2.0 with 4gb ram 240gb sata hdd nv go7300 17" 1440x900 bla bla bla .. its not too bad for that price and most other offerings from toshiba/hp/compaq/dell only has intel gma950 + 120gb + 1gb ram for that price but i found a toshiba for $97 more i might return this laptop on the weekend. it still has the 17" screen but with core2duo 1.6 or 1.7 something cpu with go7600 which is much better for gaming then go7300/7400 (still not great but should let 1 step better resolution over the 7300/7400) |
