I don't know what you were all expecting when you took the test. It's an American acccent test and the Europeans take it and reply with "I pronounce all those words differently." or some other jaded response. Just seems kind of silly to reply if you aren't American or do not understand the test anyway.
Get over it.... The original poster didn't specify that you had to be American to reply. Also Gakoex said nothing offending in his post. If you don't like discussing things with Europeans then maybe this (Finland based) message board isn't for you?

The only silly reply here is yours.

This test was made for Americans, not Europeans, yet the first people to reply are always European when this test is posted.
You Europeans are always stealing our stuff! It's our language, stop stealing it! And why do you want TWO of our dollars for ONE of your lousy pounds?[cursing][cursing]
Typical Americans. Always first to complain, never let anyone else have any fun and claim to own everything, even the English language. [rofl]

me me me me

And the test shows Midland, which is apparantly quite accurate since the people in the UK I met last week thought I was from Midland

Seems Britain is pretty weird for that, within the 4 countries of the UK each accent is very obvious (Scottish, Welsh and Irish) Not to rain on your parade but in my country we speak Northern Irish, our accent is very different from the southern accent. The reason i say this is because i hate that even people within the UK cannot accept that we are separate from the south, and you get sick of it.

I got

midland

which is right. I have lived here in the south for some 15 years and it is very nice to not have picked up the accent down here. Originally from California. No one ever says anything about my accent where ever I go, so from the start I have know it to be neutral, so this test is dead on.
If I even imitate a southerner, it is still a bit hard for me to get the right accent going.

It is very nice to go anywhere in American without people looking at you weird and asking questions because of your accent or even judging you. Plus I don't have people looking at me like "WTF did you just say" because they can't understand you.
Same, except that I was born and raised here in TN, and don't have the accent either. Whenever I go snowboarding out west, I get 10-15 people a day asking how long I have lived in the area, and where the best places to ski/snowboard are. They are always surprised when I tell them that im from TN.

There's a Northern Ireland? You'll be telling me there's a South America next.

Maybe because of the overwhelming number of American movies and Series we watch every day here in Europe? For instance, I learned all my english from American series/tv shows and movies so yeah, should I have a British accent although I'm from Europe or an American'ish one because most people I've listened to speaking the language are from USA? I guess the latter... How did you aquire your accent? Wasn't it from listening people around you speak? The same principle applies here. Only my 2cents...

BTW: Midland here [thumbup]

I got Midland.

I didn't understand this question.

15. If you say words like TIME, RIDE, MILE, I, etc., we all know that there`s a way people down South say those words. Don`t lie about it, how often do you ever say those kind of words like that? How do people down South say those words?

I got a Northern Central accent. Raised in the Bay Area. Met some Canadians once up in Seattle, they spoke like we did, so I guess it's similar.

I wonder how these accents evolved. I mean most people in the colonies were still british, and it seems like just because they werent living at home anymore their tongues lost all discipline. [rofl]

Well, perhaps at early in the history of the United States the colonists had their British accents, but through centuries of immigration and culture mixing that would pretty much, "neutralize," our accents.

Usually over here, the more you're surrounded by other races and cultures, the more you take on an, "average," voice.
