Default New EPA in use now
I don't think that any manufactures are going to like this. They work so hard to get their EPA up, and now they are just dropping like mad again.

Seems just as bad as before. In some cases it is dead on for average, and in some cases it is WAY off just like before.

Half of the cars in my family are accurate, and the other half aren't. It seems like they just swapped roles with the change. Like for my truck, the old way was much closer with my overall economy, and now the new way, even the HWY estimate is way too low. Its funny because even in the cold I get the same economy, and if I drive like a mad man or run A/C, my economy is still higher than the new EPA HWY estimate. Plus in all my experiences, A/C doesn't have a noticeable change, and driving like a bat out of hell does like 1mpg difference, maybe two.
Mythbusters got almost a 1mpg difference running A/C with a whole tank compared to not running A/C at all on a whole tank.

Seems like on average it has dropped two points. So like if the old EPA MPG was 18/25 with an average of 21, it has now dropped to 16/23 with an average of 19.


Stupid EPA, they should just test drive each individual car. Like sit there with caranddriver when they are testing them or something. Get a hands on experiance and report extremely accurate readings you damn lazy f***s.

Actually, their ratings have dropped dramatically compared to all the other vehicles. They got the worser end of the deal.
Its nice to see more accurate ratings because they really aren't what everyone thinks they are. On fueleconomy.gov, everyone who rated for Prius now shows accurate EPA results, but for the Insight, it seems like the old EPA way was dead on or even too low, and now with the new EPA it is extremely inaccurate.

Hmm... Both the new and old MPG are way off, at least according to what my vehicle (2003 Audi A4 Quattro 1.8T manual) reads when I'm driving. I average more like 31 or 32.

The new combined is dead on for my mixed driving that I do. Both are a bit off on the highway though, on a long trip going 75mph I pull 30mpg easy. But then the city can be way off to, if I really have fun driving it, I had it down to 15mpg the first couple of tanks of gas that I ran through it.

That's what I was referign too. I guess I phrased it poorly. I meant it should help the accuracy of the ratings which were pretty far off in some cases.

I believe that Mythbusters test was done in comparison with having ALL the windows down without AC, or ALL the windows up and AC. If you have all the windows down while on the highway you will see a difference. Larger engines will also be able to cruise at lower rpms on the highway and not be taxed as much by AC. Id like to see a 2.0l or 1.8l engine run AC on the highway and not get worse mpg then without it and just a few windows cracked.

Yeah wasn't it windows? I thought when the windows were down at high speed it gave you worse mpg than just turning ac on.
