I feel the same way. The cost of living here is really high. My one bedroom apartment (pretty nice place) is almost $1100 a month and then another $250 for utilities. I get taxed horrendously as well. And I am only in Sacramento, I can only imagine what SD is like [thumbdown] I know what you mean. When I was living in San Jose, my rent for a two bedroom apartment was 1600 bucks. Now that I'm back in Siskiyou County, I have a three bed/two bath house with a 2 acre yard for only 850 a month. |

I just got my bonus (2 days ago) which was more than my age... I earn a **** load of money and I'll never be as old as what I get. When I complete my MBA I'll earn a **** load more. It's kinda embarrasing and sometimes you lose all notion of reality when it comes to money after a while.
I think when you get to your 30's to 40's in age, you cannot do the whole 'earn your age or better' formula. What's more important is how quickly and by what proportion your salary/income rises from when you leave your education and when you're 30. If you're earning 20k when you're 20 and 30k when you're 30, you're probably not doing as well as you could be. Better to be earnign 20k when you're 23 (with a decent post-grad eduction) and 60k when you're 30 (or equivalent currency). If anyone is interested in numbers, I am hiring someone new to my team who will be a fairly junior analyst for a large bank. He or she will work for me, earn 60,000 USD basic and get 10 - 20% of that on top as incentive based pay (bonus) and will proabably be around 23 years old with a decent Honour Degree. Within 5 years, this person will be earning 100k, plus 20% bonus and by the time they're 30 - 33, probably close to 150k and will have been sponsored through a 100k eMBA programme - not to mention health and insurance benefits worth several thousand dollars a year. So... if you think messing about a college and spending your youth playing video games is the way to go... you might want to think about knuckling down and retiring aged 45... you can do it! |

If I were you, I would find a nice house in Connecticut if it wasn't too far from work. |
