You should have seen some of the roads I drove on in Costa Rica.

The main "highway" is basically a 2 lane partially tarmaced road, with potholes 2ft deep and the width of the whole road in places.

Within 10 minutes of leaving San Jose I saw a motorbike in a ditch with the rider being lifted into an ambulance as apparently he had smacked down a pothole and wiped out.

Cripes! the muddy track that is supposed to be a road looks crazy!

Looks like it was built for Monster trucks or tanks.

As for that cliff road, bloody hell, I'd be crapping myself as a passenger, let alone as a driver.

Worst I have to contend with around where I live, are roads with crappy drainage, so that when it rains torrentially (like it is tonight), the sides of the roads get huge puddles and going through them at anything above 30mph causes your car, van, truck etc to lurch violently towards the verge, so your never sure whether the next puddle is gonna send you flying into the ditch or hedge by the side of the road.

If there is No oncoming traffic you can steer around them, but if a bus or truck is taking up the entire other lane, then you have no choice but to hit the puddle, makes driving in the rain interesting to say the least.

Yeah, me too. Hit a good pothole every few months, but that's it.

I know right!!!

I was thinking, I would only go through that mud if I had a Silverado 1500 4x4 V8 lifted several feet or maybe even a 60's or 70's Bronco. Only then could going through that be any type of fun.
Even if that is the MAIN road, you got to be completely stupid to go through that in those huge heavy vehicles or in those low FWD vehicles.

In that third picture just look at that tire. That is a HUGE tire and HALF of it in under the mud.

I wonder why Russia doesn't pave that, even if it is a crap job. At least they will see the benefits of having it paved and how much money they could end up saving/earning from it.
Can you imagine, just a handful of years ago Russia was considered a Superpower.
Thats sad...

Talking about potholes, I once hit my head against the ceiling while traveling near Shanhaiguan, PRC . . .

The vehicle I traveled in was a bus.
