Default Anyone sleep with their hands behind their head..?
I have this really annoying habit of falling asleep with my hands behind my head when I go to bed. 6-8 Hours later when I wake, my arm(s) are numb to buggery. I literally cannot feel a thing from my shoulder down....

Anyone else experience this? I presume it'd be something to do with lack of blood travelling above the head. It must be a comfort thing to rest my head in my hands, but really got to stop. sometimes when it happens im panic stricken with very cold arms!

I do it once in a while, its just happens because as you lift your arms behind your head like that, it pinches down on the arteries and veins cutting the blood flow to your arms. Not particularly healthy, but it won't make your arms fall off.

I did that once as well. When I woke up I thought my arms were gone. I tried to move them, but because they were behind my head they didn't go anywhere. It only lasted a second, but I really did think my arms were gone!

I'm too scared to do that, my right shoulder has been dislocated too many times in that position.

I don't do it habitually as I can't get to sleep unless I'm in a particular position on my side, but I have done it once or twice, and every time I've woken up with VERY sore arms.

The first time that happened to me, I tried to move my arm but couldn't feel it moving, so I started just waving it around... All of a sudden something smacked my face! I didn't realize it was my hand for ... well way too long. That was awesome.

I've slept like that many a time and woken up with no arm... having to pick up the dead weight and return it to a normal position to get the blood flowing.

What's worse is when you are just waking up and you can't move your whole body, not even your head or eyes! I hate that when it happens, you feel completely paralyzed, though thankfully it doesn't happen too often.

Haha, yeah. I once woke up and had an itch on my face. A little later my hand fell onto my face with a smack. I think when you put your arm up like that it pinches the veins and arteries in your shoulder area.

What really sucks is falling out of a vehicle and landing flat on your back and not being to move at all for 30 secs and no one noticing it. i thought i was gonna be a parapalegic until my right arm suddenly moved then eventually my legs.

and just recently since i broke my arm ive had to keep it elevated at nights. one morning i woke up with a cold/slightly blue arm. i couldnt see my arm under all my blankets which was creepy since it had gone numb

Something like that happened to me when I went sledding once when I was a kid. Went off a huge jump and rolled backwards, so I landed on my spine. That one felt pretty good.

I've had several instances when limbs have gone "dead" on my after I wake up. I haven't made a habit of any particulary position that is likely to cause that however.

That happens to me often...

I once asked a doctor I know about it. He said that there is no harm caused by it. And that it's healthy if anything as it makes the veins stronger

i tend to that thats bogus. Arn't the muscles the only thing in your body that can "become stronger" everything else just gets worn out over time? such as your liver and kidneys?

i did one better. i got extremely drunk on irish whiskey, and went to a drunken sleep lol, in a weird position. i wake up, no feeling from the waist down to my feet, same deal with hands mentioned earlier, cept the bitch of it all was this, I HAD TO PEE ! ! !, you know how hard it was to get out of a waterbed, to teh bathroom, stand up and pee?, some would say sit down and do it, well if i would have sat down, i wouldnt have been able to stand for a lil while, lol

Every night I sleep in a way that causes one of my arms to become numb. Don't know why.. but it seems the most comfortable position for me.

That, and I guess waking up with something cold, numb, and lifeless is exactly like waking up next to any of the girls I have ever dated.....
