Default FreeView / Widescreen?
Hey

Not quite sure if I put this in the right section but it's just a quick question before I go ordering up my new TV [thumbup] Is FreeView broadcast in 16:9 or is it a some-channels-are-some-channels-aren't or not-at-all thing?

The TV is widescreen and I don't want what my girlfriend calls 'fat screen' where it stretches. And Pan and Scan would lose some of the picture....

Any help would be great!

Cheers

my box you can select both 4:3 and 16:9 formats when you setup the box, but i think it says on the boxes tbh

depends how its broadcast, most of the time with popular channels you can choose aspect ratio though.

Well, not all programmes are broadcast in widescreen, because obviously some weren't made in widescreen. But yes, Freeview does broadcast widescreen.

I always switch my TV to 4:3 if there's a 4:3 programme, because I can't stand stretching either.

True, although with built-in Freeview I think they do away with that option, for obvious reasons.

Alright, thanks guys - am going for a Daewoo box with 160GB HDD. Has good reviews - bit wary as I've seen a lot of negative reviews about FreeView boxes overall, especially at the cheaper end of the scale. Think this should be OK though!

The new Daewoo boxes are sound m8, as long as its the 9503 (160gb) 9502 (80gb) then you cant go wrong, if you're after a standalone that is, dont know much about all in ones . Just got the 9502 myself for £79.99 [thumbup]

Some channels are and some aren't; the BBC channels are widescreen, the crappy music channels and UK History aren't.

My cheapy Tesco freeview box has the option to stretch 4:3 channels to fill the screen or to keep it 4:3 and have vertical bars.
