We have a billion or so muslims that just do not get that there is a lot of speech most people in the US dislike, so we ignore it (Westside babtist, Christian symbols in cow dung, this islam video) and they should too. I was listening to npr today and they were interviewing cab drivers in NYC (a high percentage of which were middle easterners) about what the UN general assembly should be discussing in their meetings and again and again the answer was: stop people from slandering Mohammed. There is zero chance of that. Zero.
How do you get this point across to people who believe in censorship? Like this lady. She is an effing journalist and see's absolutely nothing wrong with what she was doing. What she was doing was not a protest. It was destruction of property and assault. A protest would be standing in front of said ad and denouncing it in an effort to convince others to denounce it, or starting her own counter ad campaign . If people like her are the arab worlds liberals, they have a long ass way to go to actually deserve that term. |

Every Wednesday, I drive by a group of between 5-20 anti abortion protester's. What they are doing just seems so pointless. There isn't a clinic anywhere near. Just a place they congregate and hold shocking signs. They have done it for years, and might be there everyday as far as I know. But I don't think they have changed a single mind. It is just such a lazy way of protesting that only annoys people. Go door to door and actually talk to people. That makes sense to me. Holding a sign, tearing stuff up, or just otherwise being a dick does not. Drum circles and signs accomplish nothing but the loss of hearing and destruction of trees.
Speaking of censorship, omg is dick no longer censored? |

I wouldn't have a problem with hate-speech ads if they weren't in publicly funded spaces like the subway. In fact, there shouldn't be any commercial or political advertising in the subway, period. The amount of ads in subway trains and stations is ridiculous. Every inch of the Time Square-GCT shuttle is literally plastered in ads. As someone who enjoys street art and the occasional subversive political act, I have no problem seeing this crap defaced.
Edit: Just watched the video. What an idiot. |
