Don't know about All in the family but HIMYM was exactly what you said, for the first couple of seasons, although nothing amazing, the running jokes were great and the show has a real thing on it's hand.

But it went downhill very fast and for the last few seasons it has been nothing but utter garbage.

BBT is almost the same but much less funny.

Ye I stopped watching HIMYM somewhere season 5.. Barney was fun the first 2 or maybe 3 seasons but then his jokes get old really fast. Also didn't help to know that the womanizer in fact doesn't even 'like' women.

With BBT i thought it got better with the seasons. At least it's funnier than the new TAAHM season with kutcher
