Technology defines our species.
Technology does not define our species; it is merely unique to it. Technology is a tool and useful only insofar as it advances other ends.

You are not paying attention. You have no idea what you are dismissing.
I want you to read that again and keep it in mind when reviewing what you wrote here:

it will have done more to ensure prosperity of the human race than any song, dance, or 3 month yachting trip have ever done. (Hint: there are no Latino servants nor country clubs in space).
The fact that you are oblivious to opposing your own self-interests is why we need more federal arts funding.

Intellectual and artistic culture has shaped our history to a far greater extent than manned space flight. Even science fiction authors like Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, and Bradbury have done more to inspire interest in scientific exploration than the ISS. Ohhhhh, zero-gravity waste disposal! Where do I sign up?!

Putting up the gloves for astronomy, seriously Frenchie? The nonsense that you are more experienced with than I is called "astrology" - two separate things. Just because you can read what the NASA budget is in an annual NSF report does not mean that you know a thing about astronomy either. You are barking up the wrong tree Name some. Please educate me on Astrophysics, push that that Bachelor of Arts to its limits. Tell me the kind of cheese that the moon is made of.
I've been interested in astronomy since I was 12. I've read everything from Galileo to Hawking. Now, I understand your trendy degree in an applied science may delude you into think you have sufficient grasp of all the pure sciences, but have you ever so much as glanced through a telescope? Fret not! There will soon be a dumbed-down Tyson-WTC music vid to help you catch up.
